Chapter 7: Schrdingers Equation

The New Universal Law of Motion

According to quantum mechanics and wave functions, it seems our physical world may need to be observed in order to concretely exist.

Schrdinger wanted to disprove quantum jumps and the other nonsense surrounding quantum mechanics, but failed.

According to Schrdingers new theory of motion, all matter is made up of waves.

Around the time that Schrdinger came out with his theory, Heisenberg came out with his own theory, which seemed to answer the same questions as Schrdingers but oppose it at the same time.

A wave function is a mathematical representation of an object, which includes everything knowable about that object.

Schrdinger initially (and incorrectly) thought the waviness of objects displayed in his equation was the smeared out object in question.

In truth, the waviness is the probability of finding the object in that region i.e. the more waviness, the higher the probability.

If were still going to put up with these damn quantum jumps, I am sorry I ever had anything to do with quantum theory.

In some very real sense, the wave function of an object is the object. In quantum theory there is no atom in addition to the wave function of the atom.

Classical probability is subjective. Quantum probability, waviness, on the other hand, is objective

Summary:
Schrdingers equation and quantum mechanics in general have indicated that our observation of the world may cause it concretely exist. Attempting to observe an atom makes it appear or not appear at that point. This, in turn, causes the previous path of the atom to have happened. In other words, observing the atom caused it to have followed a specific path backwards in time.
