TABLET PCS

1.What is tablet pc? Spelled tablet PC, a type of notebook computer that has an LCD screen on which the user can write using a special-purpose pen, or stylus. The handwriting is digitized and can be converted to standard text through handwriting, or it can remain as handwritten text. The stylus also can be used to type on a penbased key layout where the lettered keys are arranged differently than a QWERTY keyboard. Tablet PCs also typically have a keyboard and/or a mouse for input. The tablet PC relies on digital ink technology, where a digitizer is laid under or over an LCD screen to create an electromagnetic field that can capture the movement of the special-purpose pen and record the movement on the LCD screen. The effect is like writing on paper with liquid ink.
Many Tablet PCs use the Transmeta Crusoe chip. This processor, while not as fast as those in a high-end desktop machine, offers the advantage of greatly extended battery life. A Crusoe chip uses only 1 to 2 watts of power maximum, compared to 75 watts or more for a desktop CPU, and around 10 watts for a notebook CPU. Intel has also produced a line of low power consumption chips, the Mobile Pentium series. These are used in several Tablet PCs. Direct comparison of power consumption between the Transmeta and Intel offerings is difficult, since Intel quotes average power consumption figures, while the Transmeta figures are for peak consumption. Some advantages of a longer battery life are obvious. A less-obvious factor is that batteries are both heavy and expensive. By making it possible to use a smaller battery for the same working time, the Transmeta-style chips help lower both the weight and the cost of the Tablet PC. The Intel chips are essentially low-powered versions of their standard CPUs. The Transmeta Crusoe chip offers several technological advantages, some of which may play an important role in future Tablet PC software. Though most current Tablet PCs

run a variant of the Microsoft Windows operating system (written for Intel 80x86compatible microprocessors) the Crusoe is not an 80x86 chip at all. The Crusoe uses a technology called Code Morphing to translate the 80x86 instructions into its own instruction set. Emulators, as such, have been around for a long time (most Mac users are familiar with Virtual PC, a software package that allows them to run Windows on the Macintosh) but the Crusoe takes this idea one step further. Rather than translating each 80x86 instruction every time it is encountered, as in a conventional emulator, the Code Morphing technology can take entire groups of instructions and translate them into Crusoe native instructions the first time they're encountered, then save the result. The next time that section of code is run it executes at the full native speed of the Crusoe processor without needing to be translated a second time.

2. I-PAD as tablet pc
Here are the main features of the Apple iPad. iPad has completely revolutionized the tablet pc range of devices, but it wont be a laptop killer. With around 1Ghz Apple A4 processor and 256 MB DRAM (512 RAM in iPad2)and a maximum of 64 GB storage space, battery life offering 10 hours of video, 9.7 inch multi touch screen and Bluetooth, Wi-Fi + 3G connectivity, iPad works best as a media player and as an ebook reader, but you cant use TABs for serious computing works. For people who are addicted to operating keyboards on laptops, the switching to a touch screen keyboard cannot be comfortable

3. Uses of tablet pcs Tablet pcs are useful because being a college student everyone want Tablet pcs are beneficial for the business person who can maintain their record and can get connected to external world at any time.
to have all his notes in one place (another bonus is that he can record lectures at the same time...

Table pcs are useful for the managers to give a presentations and introduction about the new product to the other employees. Now a day tablet pcs are being used by many housewives for noting down different recipes and for making a daily checklist of their home tasks. Table pcs are also very useful for teachers in preparing notes and for delivering lectures in the class.
4. Drawbacks:

Tablet PCs are expensive, more so than notebooks of the same processing power. Not all software is Tablet-aware. If the instructor uses specialized software in instruction, he or she may be forced to use a keyboard and mouse (and carrry them, if the Tablet is a slate model). Tablet PCs can be difficult to read under some lighting conditions (some fluorescent lights or bright sunlight). This drawback is shared with many notebook computers. Though highly portable, battery powered, and equipped with wireless networking, Tablet PCs are still tethered to a projector for large group presentations (see Suggestions for Further Study, below, for a possible workaround for this problem).
