The work will involve research and development of Kalman filtering for inertial navigation systems, combined with GPS, vision and other aiding devices. Tasks will include mathematics, programming in C. Company Information Oxford Technical Solutions is a small company that manufactures electronic instruments to enable research teams to test cars. Customers include the testing departments of Ford, VW, Renault, Nissan, Volvo, etc. Almost all our customers are international and sales are made through international agents and distributors. Our products use precision accelerometers and angular rate sensors. We design high accuracy electronics to convert the analogue measurements to digital values and we process the data on embedded PC processors. Position This is a position in our growing Research and Development department. This is a full time position, 37.5 hours per week. Based in Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire. Job Description - R&D Engineer

Knowledge OxTS is looking for a graduate or post-doctorate to work in the R&D department. The ideal candidate will have a very good grasp of applied mathematics, probably from physics or engineering research. Some programming experience would be useful. It would be an advantage if you have tutored undergraduates. If you do not have a post-graduate degree then you will need a 1st class degree and be confident with it. Duties and Associated Skills As we are a small company this list does not encompass all the tasks that are required and other tasks will be assigned when required. Mathematics You will be required to develop and enhance Kalman filters for inertial navigation systems and GPS. You will be required to analyse real data, assess inertial sensor quality, develop test and calibration techniques for low cost inertial sensors. Analysis of customer data You will be required to help the support team by analysing interesting and unusual customer data, with the aim of helping the customer, improving the results and improving the Kalman filter. Embedded Software You will be required to write C code for the inertial and GPS navigation system. You will need to know about operating systems, particularly POSIX standard operating systems. You will need to make test harness software to validate software. Documentation You will be required to keep suitable documentation on your work. Other duties as required by the company This role has a lot of variation in it; from time to time you will be required to perform other duties, mainly in the R&D department. Other requirements You must have the right to work permanently in the UK/EU. You will be required to live within 20 miles of Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire. It is very hard to use public transport to get to our office so personal transport will be needed.
