COMPANY BACKGROUND
HISTORY

Bloomer and Cascades is a small-scale business which manufactures and sells home decorations such as curtains, pillows, bed covers, seat covers, and many more. It opened its doors to the market on 1994. Since then, Bloomer and Cascades House of Curtains, has been providing quality and affordable products to the consumer public. Although not widely known throughout the whole country, this establishment managed to gain loyal customers by word of mouth. Most of its buyers came from the locality to where it is located, in Novaliches, Quezon City. Bloomer and Cascades first started as a hobby of owner, Nestor Buco. He and his wifes love for designing curtains gave them the inspiration to make it into a business. They first started out with designing little curtains for their own house, and then proceeded with developing more designs to sell. They invested on buying hi-speed sewing machines to aid them in the growing demand for more curtains. As the years go by, they ventured into the wholesale market, providing their quality and uniquely designed curtains through various markets in the Philippines, such as Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Batangas, Bataan and Ilocos Norte. But, like other business, they too encountered many difficulties. They underwent some financial difficulties which led them to close their wholesale business. They then focused on strengthening their retail store and then eventually, found the market of house servicing. They gained more customers by offering their services to home owners who wants their house decorated but dont want to buy ready-made curtains, instead they want them made especially for their houses. Thus, their business again boosted into action.

PRESENT ICT SITUATION

Currently, Bloomer and Cascades is using the following technologies and equipment in the operation of their business: In the retail store, they use the following: 3 Desktop computers in the retail store. (one is used for the cashier, another one in the office, and one for other purposes) 1 Printer Point-of-Sales System(tracking purchases of products) Inventory System (tracking deliveries and sales of products) Laptop (brought by the owner occasionally) In the manufacturing area, they have the following: 2 Desktop computers (Used for tracking inventories) 1 Printer Inventory System (tracking stocks and deliveries of materials) Laptop Basically, Bloomer and Cascades House of Curtains, uses only the basic technology for their business operation. But these devices are not connected, and the transfer of files and data are done manually via USB file transfer.

These current situations became the main driving force for the proponents to propose a network plan that will help the company in managing its resources and also to save time. Basically, there will be two areas that need a network, but since, the devices are the same, the network plan can be applied to both.

CHAPTER 2 INFORMATION SYSTEMS STRATEGY

This chapter includes the description of computer networks as well as the network design and architecture to be used in the organization. This chapter will also explain how and why the proponents came up with these ideas.

Significance of the Study

This study would be beneficial to the Bloomers and Cascades business establishment and other employees working under it. This network plan will be a big help for the improvement of the said business establishment.

Network Design and Architecture

The proponents will be using a Client/Server type as its architectural design in this network proposal. Commonly, in this type of design there should be a file, printer and application server. And as a server one computer will be utilized. Star topology will be used as a network topology design. All computers will be connected to one central switch which will enable data and resource sharing. The central switch will be connected to the main server for monitoring data communications. This type of topology best suits the architecture design. Resource sharing (like the printer sharing) and file sharing can be available from the main server.
