1940s-1960s
Formation of The International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations (UN), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Trade Organization (WTO). Emphasis was given to human rights, economics, poverty,social dialogue, environnemental protection, democracy and trade liberalization
1960s-1970s
concern increased about the long-term effects of pollution on the environment and the activities of international corporations in foreign countries. Friends of the Earth,Greenpeace,World Wildlife Fund and Amnesty International, among other environmental and social NGOs,were founded to campaign against environmental degradation and the abuse of human rights. These organizations played an instrumental role in the development of legislation, standards and the promotion of social, environmental, economic and other CSR-related issues
1980
The 1980s saw the continued development of new CSR concepts. Environment became more prominent with the emergence of concepts such as sustainable development (ie, environment, economic and social issues) and corporate ethics. Socially responsible business practices
1990
Increased attention was given to the CSR-related concepts corporate ethics and fair trade. Establishment of a range of working groups, committees, research teams and in some cases, international laws, agreements and declarations. The purpose of the standard was to develop and disseminate globally applicable sustainability guidelines for reporting on the economic, environmental and social dimensions of activities Pressure was put on business during this period to prove that it was acting responsibility by endorsing and committing itself to various codes and standards
