Transitions to adulthood for young people with chronic illnesses and chronic health conditions Youth, Community & Education Division, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences, De Montfort University, Leicester
STARTING OCTOBER 2012 A PhD research studentship covering tuition fee costs within the Faculty of Health & Life Sciences is available to suitably qualified UK or EU students. Our youth-related research was highlighted as outstanding in the 2008 RAE, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity of working with an internationally recognised research team with expertise in youth studies, sociology, youth policy and health psychology. The project will explore the transitions to adulthood and the life trajectories of young people with chronic illnesses and/or health conditions, their interactions with youth services, and the impact of current social policy. Areas of specific interest are likely to include: transitions from education to work, educational and occupational aspirations, experiences of education and training, access to youth services, and experiences and challenges associated with hospitalisation during adolescence. Doctoral scholarships are available for up to three years full-time study starting October 2012 which will cover the cost of University tuition fees.
