The Cork construction companies "bearing the brunt" of the downturn could hold the
key to rescuing the industry, according to the director of the Construction Industry
Federation (CIF). With a drop of almost 30 billion in the level of construction activity nationwide since 2006, Tom Parlon outlined that the current state of the industry and its forecast for the future needs to be addressed. This includes an analysis of the services available to companies operating in the UK, the status of negotiations on the Registered Employment Agreement, the Construction Contracts Bill, procurement in the Irish construction industry, compliance
Parlon. "The level of activity in the construction sector has collapsed in the last five years and you can see why those construction companies who have survived are finding it so difficult." He added that while
the companies still operating
in Cork face "huge issues", they also have "strong views as to how we can go about rescuing
the industry". The session is free and all CIF members are invited to attend. To book a place contact Brid Cody on 021 4351410 or email bcody@cif.ie.
