Hannah Gross 9A Maths, as usual was very boring. Mrs Dobbs was droning on and on about fractions.

Katie looked out the window, trying to find something to watch. Unfortunately there was no such luck. Her attention was quickly drawn back to the class as the teachers phone rang. Mrs Dobbs apologised for the inconvenience and explained the necessity of this call as her son was ill. She briskly left the class room. Several things happened at one. A crash was heard as someone stood up too fast and upturned the table. Suzanne, a girl who spent most of her time in the Principals Office jumped up and locked the door, grinning wickedly. Eve and Lacey hurried to their schoolbags. Katie, not wanting to be blamed for the mess, turned around to watch events unfold. Since there was no grown-ups to tame the class each child was left to do what they wanted. Two girls opened the window wide, and then proceeded to throw scraps of paper out onto the builders working below. Out went the markers for the board followed by textas, bottles and neighbouring students work books. Lacey had gotten her hands on a rotten apple left in the corner of the classroom. She signalled to Eve to turn on the fan. .Katie, as quick as she could got under her desk for protection. Lacey pulled her hand back and launched the apple in to the air towards the fan. Rotten apple spray rained down on the unlucky students who had not seen this coming. Eve scurried around the room in search of more potential missiles. They feared they only had one and Lacey had just used it. At the back of the classroom, students were trying to utilise their time unsupervised. Many had accessed various social networking accounts and Rebecca Stone was typing so fast her fingers appeared to be somewhat of a blur. Others were sitting on desks, chairs and the floor chatting away at one hundred miles an hour. At the front of the class, a gaggle of girls had assembled and belted out the lyrics to the latest song. None of the girls were particularly gifted but they laughed and sang at the tops of their voices all the same. The more studious pupils remained in their seats doing work for other classes. Occasionally they glanced up and smiled at the singers. To some girls, the teacher leaving the room was no excitement whatsoever and they slept on as they did in most classes. The remaining students, having skipped breakfast so as not to be late, grabbed their lunch boxes and began to stuff their faces in an attempt to eat as much as they could in the shortest amount of time possible. All this Katie watched from her sheltered spot under her desk. She remained there until she was sure the downpour of various objects had finished. As if the class had a sixth sense, all activity stopped abruptly. There was a sudden frenzy as everyone scrambled to their seats. The door, now unlocked, was opened. The teacher appeared, thanking the students for behaving like angels whilst she was gone.
