:165570 COURSE CODE: FSC 716 ASSIGNMENT: WRITE A ONE PAGE ESSAY ON HYPERTEXT Could we say that hypertext permits non sequential or non linear traversal of the document by the reader? The answer to the question is simple because, the basic operation of the web is tied to Hypertext since it creates a link for navigating WebPages in a website. It allows users to quickly switch or navigate pathways of one information source to another with the click of a button. Come to think of it, hypertext is text with links or pointers showing relationships between parts of information. More so, hypertext is nonlinear text compared to books which have its text presented in a hierarchical fashion, which are serial in pagination, this point to the fact that, a reader is expected to read a book in order in which the text appears. However, hypertext uses hyperlinks that allow the reader to navigate any part of the text. Indeed, hypertext disregard the order , in the traditional sense of reading a book from one end to another, because hypertext allows the user to click and choose his next subject or can skip over the entire sections of information, while perusing through others with great depth. In the same vein, readers not writers are in control of the order in which they look at material in WebPages. As a matter of fact, Hypertext does not only permits users to link and access information of various kinds

scattered over the WebPages in a website but provides a single user interface to large classes of information. Because of the non linear nature of hypertext, users freedom to explore variety of information is possible and user can take full charge or control of a set of dynamic links in obtaining nonlinear information in a hypertext system.
