ABSTRACT
Electrocardiography (ECG) is a common method used to measure the performance of the human heart through the heart's to electrical activity. In this work we realized an intelligent system that has ability to analyze and classify abnormalities of ECG signals. Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) with Morlet function used to explore time-frequency characteristics the ECG signals. Classification of ECG signals was performed by Artificial Neural Network (ANN) with error backpropagation algorithm learning method. The ANN configuration was 20,000 neurons in the input layer, 50 neurons in the hidden layer, and 3 neurons in output layer. ECG signals used were from the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia database, including normal signal beats and bundle branch block (BBB) beats. The CWT computation results showed significant differences of time-frequency characteristics between normal and BBB signals. In the experimental tests of classification performance of the ANN with previously trained data (25 data for 3 classes : normal, left bundle branch block, right bundle branch block), each class was 100% recognized. Using different data test, the ANN recognized the data with accuracy 87.04%. In cross validation test the ANN showed good performance with 87% sensitivity and 95% specificity. The test results demonstrate effectiveness of the ECG signal pattern recognition using CWT and ANN. Therefore, the proposed method is expected to be realized in development of Intelligent Cardiac Diagnostic System for clinical application.
