[New York, NY April 28, 2012] The first annual Peoples Film Festival (TPFF)presented by the Four Builders Foundation, kicks off May 16 - 19 2012 in Harlem, New York, at the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College at 2180 Third Avenue at East 119th Street featuring the USA premiere of "Grandpa Was A Freedom Rider" a documentary film directed by Martial Buisson that tells the story of the Freedom Riders. Doors open at 5:30pm, with a special reception showcasing the dynamic artwork of renowned artist Charlotta Janssen whose paintings depicts the struggles of the Freedom Riders. A panel discussion will follow the screening moderated by Dr. Steven Burkhardt, of the Silberman School of Social Work with original 1961 Freedom Riders and organizers from Occupy Wall Street. The panelists include 1961 Freedom Riders Lew Zuckman and LaVaughn Brown, Deanna Ford, SCAN NY Youth Peer Mentor and members of the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Other speakers in attendance include Dan Coughlin of Manhattan Neighborhood Network, and representatives from the Maysles Cinema. All films will be shown at the Maysles Cinema, beginning Friday, May 18, & Saturday, May 19, 2012, Panels and after parties will be held at several locations throughout Harlem. Thursday night May 17, 2012 from 6pm 9pm will feature a Filmmakers panel "Breaking All The Rules", moderated by film maker & radio personality, Greg Lassiter at the Aloft Harlem Hotel. MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL The People's Film Festival celebrates the power of the media when placed in the hands of the people. The festival features screenings from emerging producers, videographers, and filmmakers from all over the world, reflecting both traditional and advant-garde style films, with an emphasis on films that integrate multiple digital platforms using today's new media & technology. The categories range from narratives, features, shorts, and documentaries including a special category for films about the Worldwide Occupy Wall St Movement (WWOWS).
