Idaho Content Standards: Achieve mature forms of basic locomotor skills, and vary the way that these are used. In this case, Running and slowing to grab other students flags (PE.1.1.1.) Participate in developmentally appropriate moderate to vigorous activity one third of the lesson time (PE.3.1.1.) Know and demonstrate basic knowledge of health related fitness including Cardiorespiritory endurance (PE.4.1.2.) Objectives: Students will perform basic locomotor skills and participate in vigorous activity, while thinking about which of the five categories of fitness the activity is in. Through the game of flag tag, the students will be assessed on their level of participation, and their understanding of the concepts of fitness at the end of class as a whole group. Materials: 30 sets of flag football flags Activity Name: Flag Tag Students will each get a belt that has one flag on it, and find a spot in the gym where they are away from everybody else in the gym. The concept of the game is to run around and try to grab everybody elses flags from them. If your flag gets taken, then you will have to stand in place until you can grab the flag of somebody who runs by you. The students play this game for about five minutes each time, and then they have to reset in order to give everyone a fair chance. The activity is done 4 times total, and there is never really a winner declared. Closing the activity: Students take a seat in their original lines in which they take role in, and are asked which of the five categories of fitness that this activity demonstrated. After the question is answered then the question of why it is in that category is asked. Once I get the correct answer, then the students are allowed to line up so that they can go back to their General Education classes.
