Consumerism is defined as
an organized movement of citizen & government to strengthen the right & power of the the buyers in relation to seller - Philip Kotler

A majority of population is illiterate, ignorant & ill

informed.
The consumer is economically weak. The advance science & technology enables the manufactures to produce myriad types of goods. Advertising is a potent device for sales promotion

In addition to this six rights of consumer given by Government of India, The United Nations Organisation also gives two rights:

Right to basic needs Right to healthy environment

Consumer responsibilities
1. Consumer should exercise his/her rights 2. Cautious consumer/do not buy blindly 3. Filing complaints for the redressal of genuine grievances 4. Consumer must be quality conscious 5. Beware of false advertisement 6. Do not forget to get receipt and Guarantee/warrantee card 7. Do not buy in hurry
