Caterpillar Peterlee are currently seeking 2 Advanced Tool Maker Apprentices

Background/Experience required for the above: 5 GCSE Grades A-C inclusive of English, Maths and Science subjects Chosen candidates must be keen and reliable and have an interest in this field of work Good attitude and communication skills essential, plus the willingness to learn Experience in engineering would be an advantage, for example, NVQ Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO), Performing Manufacturing Operations (PMO), BTEC National in Engineering, GCSE in Engineering related subject ICT skills are an advantage

Job Requirements Reading complex engineering drawings Precision machining (using CNC lathes & milling machines) Fabrication (cutting/bending/joining complex structures) welding (MIG) Mechanical fitting (assembly/fixture building) Inspection (calibration & reporting - using state of the art "laser track" measuring equipment). The above skills will be applied to manufacture new/maintain precision tooling for production of the Articulated Dump Truck (ADT) in the fabrication, paint and assembly processes The equipment manufactured typically falls within the following categories; positioning templates, spider fixtures, main assembly jigs/fixtures, weld manipulators and lifting equipment

Candidates will be required to attend a days assessment centre in July 2012. On the job training will be provided by Caterpillar. Successful candidates must attend either block release or day release starting September 2012 to achieve a full advanced apprenticeship framework at NVQ Level 3, as directed by the chosen Training Provider or College.
