Tool PASS Unit 1.0 Using the Nursing Process Daily 1.1 Assessment: The student will 1.1.1 Correctly demonstrate the assessment skills of observation, auscultation, palpation. 1.1.2 Document the patient's health history and/or assessment in approved format. 1.2 Planning: The student will 1.2.1 Contribute to the patient's plan of care on a daily basis. 1.3 Implementation: The student will 1.3.1 Demonstrate patient care skills directed towards meeting the patient's physical, emotional and learning needs. 1.3.2 Verbalize one new patient care skill per week, obtained by observation, attending an in-service or viewing a videotape. (to be reported on in the seminar setting) 1.4 Evaluation: The student will 1.4.1 Document the patient's response to nursing interventions on a daily basis. 1.4.2 Make changes to the plan of care based upon daily evaluation. PASS Unit 2.0 Organizational Skills 2.1 Time Management: The student will 2.1.1 Develop a time plan that incorporates all patient care activities on a daily basis. 2.2 Setting Priorities: The student will 2.2.2 Demonstrate prioritization of patient care based on Maslows hierarchy of needs. 2.2.3 Discuss critical thinking skills that enable the nurse to meet all patient needs in a timely manner.

Unit 3.0 The Nurse as a Coordinator of Care 3.1 Patient Care Assignments: The student will 3.1.1 Demonstrate appropriate delegation techniques. 3.2 Communication Skills: The student will 3.2.1 Document assessments and appropriate progress notes on each patient daily. 3.2.2 Document the patient's status in relation to identified problems daily. 3.2.3 Accept and deliver a verbal report of the patient's condition each shift.

3.3 Specific Nursing Units: (To be met in the seminar setting) The student will: 3.3.1 Discuss organizational and care delivery features of a specific nursing unit.
