Christopher Sanchez April 11, 2012 Robert Arnold INTL 3111 In this class I learned a substantial amount about

how to correlate pieces of literature through their contextual meanings and their similar qualities between master narratives. Though not only did we compare novels, short stories, and pieces that have been written by Nobel prize winners but we also took the contextual clues from the works and compared them to the current events that were occurring at the times the works of literature were created. For the final paper Id like to take the opportunity to help make a comparison to a specific government figure, that has yet to have been mentioned in class. Its is one I have experienced first hand and in my opinion it has been stealthy under the radar with its issues and corruption. The government I am mentioning is notorious for its large and ever-growing drug cartel that has influenced the countries government power negatively and practically has complete control over the land within its borders. The country I speak of is Mexico and this is a country whos main economic boost are drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, as well as heroine. Though when I say economic boost it isnt helping with government funding nor a gain in revenue. Its value is something that only benefits those who are bold enough to take on this dangerous profession. The push factor, which is commonly learned in a sociology class, is the reason for most of the people who are involved with this notorious group. Professions that are well known to make a decent living here in the United States, make probably about half of those earnings. For example doctors arent known to make six figures as they are known to make here in the states, and I would like to look into the issue as to why. Is it because of Mexicos lack of taking

matters into its own hands like we saw in Chinua Achebes novel Anthills of the Savannah? To be honest Im not exactly sure to what it is. That the reason I chose this to be my topic for this essay, to help give me an opportunity to look further into the details and figure out if these themes have any correlations with some of the works we reviewed in class. In Conclusion, the fact of the matter is that my reason for choosing this subject is because I feel as I have a certain connection with these events, since I have close relatives who have to deal with this countries oppressive government.
