General Information about the BIOSUpdates: This page provides you general information about system BIOS and

the update process.

Overview: The "Basic Input/Output System" or BIOS of a computer is a set of permanently recorded program routines which act as an interface between the hardware and the software. During a product's life cycle, Toshiba makes changes to the BIOS to improve compatibility. Should a customer encounter an issue with their system, an initial step in resolving it can be to update their systems BIOS. To facilitate this process, customers may obtain updated BIOS revisions from our Website. BIOS Type: Toshiba Notebooks have either a Toshiba BIOS or a Phoenix BIOS*. Toshiba Desktop/PCTowers have either a AMIBIOS (award) or a Phoenix BIOS*. *note: To determine which BIOS type you have, on start up of the Notebook, a Phoenix BIOS will display "Press (F2) to enter Setup". By pressing F2 on start up and entering the Setup (BIOS), the BIOS type will be displayed at the top of the screen. Important notes for a BIOS Update: Failure to follow the below notes could damage or erase the BIOS Chip (EPROM). This can result in a malfunction of the PC.

DO NOT Update the BIOS in Battery Mode, update the BIOS with the ACPowerAdapter connected. DO NOT Stop the BIOS Update when in Process. DO NOT Interrupt teh ACPowerSupply to the machine on BIOS Update Disconnect all Peripheral while doing the BIOS Update (peripherals include: a mouse, a printer, PCMCIA Cards, USB devices and so on) Disconnect Port Replicators, Card Stations, LAN Dockers, DVD Dockers, Expansion Stations and Desk Stations. Disable the Resume Mode on the Notebook.
