We SEE. We JUDGE. We ACT!

Position Statement of Student catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP) on the Reproductive Health Bill - 27 April 2012

Defined as "an organized group of students striving to become a community of disciples of Jesus Christ by being evangelized and evangelizing," the Student catholic Action of the Philippines (SCAP), existing in 30 memberarch/dioceses nationwide, strongly believes in and upholds the value of LIFE and its necessity as BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. (we SEE) "An army of youth Hying the Standard of TRUTH" We know the truth and we will defend it. We are aware that the first signs of life begin at conception when the egg and sperm cells meet, a process that takes less than a second. And that all intrusive acts to prevent such fusion negate the principle of preserving life. We consciously understand the perils behind the use of contraceptives and abortifacients that will disturb the natural pattern of bodily processes which may even result in psychological imbalance. We see this as a difficult and irrevocable option offered to the young and even to married couples. SCAP strongly upholds and respects Human Life. (we JUDGE) "We are fighting For Christ the LordlF We do not accept the secular notion of separating one's faith with one's freedom of choice. We find the idea of "safe sex" that the RH Bill espouses enslaves the youth more than making them really free. True freedom is being responsible and choosing only what is right and good. The use of condoms and other contraceptives that RH Bill promotes paves the way to pre-marital and extra-marital acts, same sex union, early and unwanted pregnandes and/or abortion, and many others, that decrease moral and Christian values of Filipino youth. The young people can be responsible and good. Let them freely choose LIFE. SCAP believes that an educated and evangelized Filipino youth will stand firm in faith and choose LIFE (we ACT) "Heads lifted high, Catholic ACTION our cry, and the Cross our only sword" We are convinced that Philippines is rich not only in natural resources but also in human resources. The country has educated and empowered women, and the youth comprises a large majority of the population. Overpopulation and poverty are not the real issues here which the RH Bill promotes. The Philippines is poor because of poor governance and rampant graft and corruption in all levels of government agendes, unequal distribution of wealth and resources, laws that legalized illegal acts like mining and deforestation. The RH Bill proposes the easy way to address what it perceives as problem in population by control and stopping it from growing instead of management. The issue of life is not a quest of what is easy and advantageous but of what is right and good. Hence, let us not choose convenience over good. "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. (Luke13:24) SCAP disagrees with the propositions of the Reproductive Health Bill in the Philippines. It is not the solution to the aggravating issues and concern on poverty and population.
