SPANISH LEAGUE: GAME OVER?

After having spent more than forty years looking for glory, our national football team got its own back and won the European and World cup. Actually, nowadays Spanish team is considered to be one of the strongest future rivals. However, at the same time, our league -which acording to the experts have always been one of the most exciting and spectacular in the world- seems to loosing a part of its popularity not only among suppoters but also among football professionals. Apparently this is a nonsense situation since the most important clubs in Europe R.Madrid and F.C. Barcelona - ( along with Manchester United) as well as some of the best world players are in our league. Therefore : What are the causes of this crisis? What has changed in the last ten years? I will answer to this and some other questions in a series of three articles starting with this one. Mr. Del Nido, current president of Sevilla F.C. blames the difference between televisions pay to Barsa and Madrid for their broadcasting rights and what the other teams get for them. Acording to him, that eighteen small teams will never get the chance to win a league or even a cup until this situation changes. It is reasonable for me to agree Mr del Nido up to a point specially if you take some time to analyse this numbers: when in present time Madrid and Barsa win more than 75 per cent of the matches they play. From my point of view if those matches become films whose ending we always known beforehand many people will stop watching them. Of course this is not the only reason why Spanish league is loosing part of its appeal. Spanish supporters think that it also has to do with players dont identificating with their teams -and becoming what they call mercenaries- whereas in their parents` and grandparents time players used to feel really emotionally involved with them. Tomorrow I will analyse in depth the origin of this changes and I will explain how Bossman law changed our football in a radical and dramatic way.
