How to Solve The Compatibility Problem between 3G Modem and TP-LINK 3G Router

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Preface
If you want the 3G router to work well with a 3G modem and surf the internet successfully, two things are essential: the Router must recognize (be compatible with) the 3G modem, and mostly you need to fill the right ISP information into the routers 3G setting page. In this guide, we show you how to make an incompatible modem to be recognized by the router. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------To check whether the 3G modem in your hand compatible with the router, please insert the modem into the routers USB slot, and go to Status Page (you can find it easily on the left item tree). If you see the picture below in the status page, you are facing a compatibility problem between your 3G modem and TP-LINK 3G router.

So we have developed the unique TP-LINK 3G USB Sniffer utility to help you out. Now lets start!

(Yes, you may have already found that there are 13 pages in this guide. Please dont worry, the operation is just click and click. Its very easy) 1.
You need to have one computer installed with Windows XP, and please install the python-

2.6.5.msi first which comes with this guide.

Note: The following steps require you to plug and unplug your 3G modem into/from your computer several times, please make sure that you always plug it into the same USB port of your computer every time.

2.

Please plug your 3G modem into one USB port of your computer, and then install the modem

driver. When you plug the modem into the computer, there is an extra icon available in My computer window. Double click this icon and finish all the installation. (Some modem's driver will

run automatically)

3.

Unplug your 3G modem from your computer, and then open the SniffUSB_TP-LINK folder as

below

And run the tool below:

Please note: to run the program above, you need to put it in an "English path", such as D:\ryan\FD\SniffUSB_TP-LINK\SniffUSB_TP-LINK(every charicter in English)

4.

Now you can see this picture below. Please write the model no. of the modem into "Model

of 3G card" blank. If the log size is not zero, please click Uninstall All.

(Here we take HUAWEI E1261 for example) Please remember the currently displayed items. Because later you need to do with the newly added items.

5.

Plug the 3G modem into the USB port (through which you install the modem driver) of your

PC, then the view list will increase. Please unplug it until the view list is steady.

6.

Select the newly added devices one at a time then press Install. Please note that, here you just

need to 'install" one item, when you finish step 6 and step 7, then you do with the next item.

7.

Plug the 3G modem into the same USB port of your computer again. The Log size will be increasing. Wait for two minutes or more (to archive enough data), then

unplug the 3G modem, and then wait for around 5 seconds, then press Uninstall All.

8. 9.

Please repeat step 6 and step 7 until all the newly added items are dealt with.

Please connect your PC to the 3G router with a cable and insert the 3G Modem into the router.

10. Now you have finished getting the data, and we're verifying them!
Please click on Generate BIN button to generate the bin files.

Note: You can find the .bin files at X:\SniffUSB_TP-LINK\Check\Bin folder, X stands for the position where you installed the utility.

11.

Log into TP-LINK 3G router, then go to Network -> Internet Access to choose the 3G only

option.

12.

Now you need to upload the bin file to verify them. please go to Network -> 3G -> Modem

Settings. If you find that there are existing items listed (they're uploaded previously), please delete them all, then you how to check the result.

REBOOT the router. Then you just log into this page again, and

click Add New, upload one bin file at a time to see if it solves the compatible problem. Step 13 tells

13.

Please go to status page, and wait for "identifying" which takes about 30 seconds. If then it still

shows "unknown modem" after "identifying", please try another .bin file.

14.

If it shows the model no. of the modem, the .bin file you just uploaded contains the right data.

15.

You may have already found that, every bin file contains 3 or 4 commands. Only one

command really takes effect. Now please visit System Log page of the 3G router, and you would find the message telling you which command really works for you: "3G modem mode switches successfully, the efficient command's index is X"

Please Note:
If it fails after you try all the bin files, you may unluckily miss some important data in step 7, please repeat from step 5. In our test, commonly we repeated 2~3 times to finally get the right bin file.

16.

You still remember the "TP-LINK Sniffer" gear ? Yes, we're using it now! Just open it

again, and do as it shows below, separate the bin file into 3 or 4 bin files which only contain one command.

17.

You can find the newly separated .bin file as shown below. You remember the System

Log information in step 15? Yes, right upload the bin file whose suffix number is recognized as correct in system log. But please remember, delete the existing bin file, and reboot the router, then you can use the exactly right bin file. (And I am using xxxxxxxxx_entry(1).bin)

Finally, please send the right bin file you've found to us. Meanwhile if you still can not solve the problem, please feel free to contact us.
