1. Introduction
This Method Statement covers the Pneumatic Pressure Testing of all public health drainage and soil pipework. This procedure defines the method used to ensure the testing has been carried out as per contract requirements and best commercial practices.

3. Design Parameters
The pneumatic testing is to comply with the specification requirement to test all soil waste and drainage pipework to 38mm WG. This is described more fully in section 6 below.
Specification Reference
Commissioning Water systems Hilson Moran Specification
Drawing Reference
Drawing Numbers are to be provided for the pipework sections to be tested
4. Reference Documents/Drawings
Detail relevant drawings, schematics, or any other reference documents required to enhance the method statement i.e. BS documents, CIBSE/BSRIA codes, manufacturers literature etc.
Relevant Codes

Drawing Reference
Applicable Hilson Moran drawings and contractors drawings to be referenced here.
6. Commissioning/Test Procedures
a) Testing Procedure
i. Before commencing testing, signs will be positioned on all entrances to areas where items are under test. These will include the message item on test- do not use together with a contact number and name. ii. ASP and waste pipework, for the area to be tested will be isolated. The system will be isolated using test bags, plugs or bungs as necessary, all bags, plugs and bungs are to be numbered and logged to ensure removal. iii. The system is to be tested in as few sections as practically possible to minimize the number of untested joints.

iv. A manometer will set up in an easily accessible location on the system to incorporate as much of the system as possible and so minimise the number of tests. v. The Manometer will be connected to the system and the system (with the hand pump) will be raised to a test pressure (which will be 38mm WGB). If there is a drop within the test period (3 minutes) the system will be inspected, ensuring that all traps have been adequately filled and all joints (including the test apparatus) are sound. vi. When the system has reached the test criteria, we will offer the system for witness by the commissioning authority. Where the Local Authority is to witness the test they will be informed of the date and time of the appointment, with at least three days notice, a successful test will be completed prior to this Local Authority witness test. vii. After the test has been successfully carried out the test apparatus will be removed and the system carefully reconnect with great care to ensure that the reconnection joints are airtight. The joints will be checked for integrity visually. viii. This activity will be repeated for each section of the soil, waste, drainage and vent systems until the whole system has been successfully tested. ix. All Operatives are to adopt a clean as you go in work areas ensuring all debris is placed in the correct Bins. Work area to be left clean and tidy at the end of each Day. x. Full test information will be issued incorporating Marked-Up drawings for relevant section of install under test.
Timing of Testing
The timing of testing shall be as follows: i) Interim Tests: as soon as practical after completion of the particular section, with particular attention to all work which will be concealed. No work shall be concealed until satisfactorily tested, witnessed and signed off. All pressure tests shall be carried out and approved before any external insulation or similar cladding is applied to the installation. ii) Final Tests: To be carried out on completion of all work on the drainage systems and prior to handing over.

d) Cleaning
All obstructions, debris and superfluous matters, shall be removed from the pipeline. All piping shall be flushed out before testing.
e) Inspection
Visual inspection shall be carried out at both interim and final testing before work is concluded, in order to detect faults in construction or materials.
7. Interface Procedure
The process pneumatic testing is fully within the control of the mechanical pipework contractor and should not require significant interface with other contractors. Barricades and site signage will be provided. The primary interface is with the engineer and witnessing/commissioning authority. This interface is ongoing.
8. Documentation
The documentation required will include: a. Test notification and request for witness. b. Contractors drawings identifying the section under test. c. Test Record Sheet for public health pipework Pressure Testing d. Risk Assessment Forms: Risk mitigation measures as identified in Risk Assessments to be inspected at regular intervals for activity duration as identified in the Health & Safety Manual.

11. Instrumentation
A list of all instrumentation to be used in the testing procedure is to be included here, including serial numbers. A separate instrument log, including copies of all calibration certificates will be required prior to commencement of testing. All test equipment will be calibrated immediately prior to the commencement of this project.
12. Staffing
Details of the engineer undertaking the process detailed above are required. Staff attending the test and their role and responsibility is required.

Safety Lighting
Safety lights will be used in case of power failure ensuring the good illumination of the working area to aid evacuation if necessary.
Task Lighting
Adequate lighting shall be provided to ensure the good illumination on the working area.
Fire Precautions
No significant fire risks associated with this activity but general fire precaution measures will be taken as per Main Contractors instructions. Communication from site areas to Site Office via mobile phones issued to all engineers.
