THE EFFECT OF ADDITIVE WHITE GAUSSIAN NOISE (AWGN) ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SOFTWARE DEFINED RADIO (SDR) DIGITAL MODULATION

SCHEMES Abstract Modulation Scheme Recognition plays a major role in Software Radio Implementation. Modulation Recognition is required for correct demodulation process, spectrum management, interference management, etc. The performance of a given modulation identification algorithm is affected by Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). This has a bearing on the transmitting power and bandwidth requirements. Therefore, it is necessary to minimize white noise to improve the performance of a Modulation Scheme Recognition Algorithm. Hence, the study explores the modeling of an autoregressive moving average filter. The model is applied on a received signal and the improvement is shown in terms of Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR). The simulations are performed using MATLAB tools. The performance of any system largely depends on the type of modulation schemes used. Since mobile radio systems are bandwidth limited, Phase Shift Keying (PSK) digital modulation scheme is more suited.
