Be Careful What You Wish For

This is a story about Sarah Bareilles. Sarah lives in a bed of roses. All the stuff that she desires are often granted , because of that she became a spoil brat. She is selfish and very self-centerd. Her selfishness made her parents quite mad and did not allowed her to have her own pet. But everything changed when one day she found a cute little puppy in the bushes near a forest. "But why can't I have a dog for my birthday?" Sarah cried. " How many times do your father and I have to tell you?" her mother said impatiently. "We can't afford to have it running around the house, and what would we do with it when we go on a trip? Your father and I have enough on our minds without a dog in the family." Sarah simply glared at her parents. Finally she got up and pushed away her half-eaten dinner. "Fine, have it your way then. I am going for a walk." She walked out the door, slamming it behind her and

ignoring her mother's calls telling her to take her coat and come home by 9:00 p.m. She could not stand her parents. They constantly treated her like she was still three years old instead of eleven. Before long, Sarah found herself in the forest near her house. She usually avoided going in the spooky forest. It was dark and wet. Tree roots grew up from the ground, making her stumble as she wound her way through the jumble of trees, occasionally ducking under the low branches. She wished she had brought her coat instead. It was still winter and frost covered the hard ground. The sky was dark when Sarah decided to make her way back home. Sarah was on her way when suddenly she stumbled across something on the ground and fell. Cursing under her breath, she looked down to see what had made her fall. Just a rusty old lamp. Surrounded by darkness, Sarah was getting colder and a bit scared. She hoped she could find her way home. Aloud, Sarah wished she had a dog to keep her company. Out of the blues, she heard a rustling in the bushes. Looking behind her, Sarah thought she saw something strange coming out of the lamp. It must have been her imagination she told herself after inspecting the lamp carefully , now she went to examine the bushes. There, sitting in the middle of a bush, stood a cute little puppy with unusually sharp front teeth. She picked up the shivering little pup and cradled it gently in her arms. It gave a small contented "woof" and blinked slowly. " I'll call you Cam," she said happily. And without another word she went home. When she got back she found her mother and father at the front door calling her name. Feeling satisfied that she had caused them worry, she walked up to the porch and eagerly showed them the sleeping puppy. Her

parents took one look at the dog and firmly told her they would not allow it in the house. "I don't care if you don't allow it!" Sarah screamed as she ran up the stairs with Cam in her arms. "You don't understand! You will never understand, I wish you were dead!" And with these words she slammed her bedroom door, layed down on her bed, and fell asleep. Sarah woke up to her alarm clock. Something felt wrong. Today was her birthday. Usually, yummy smells of pancakes cooking and the sound of utensils clinking were not there. No single balloons were in her room. In fact, it was totally silent. Maybe her parents were still sleeping, she thought resentfully. However, even as the thought crossed her mind, she knew it wasn't true because she did not hear her father's unusually loud snoring. Sarah nervously crossed the hall and opened the door to her parents room. A gruesome sight met her eyes. Her father was lying on the floor. His eyes open and unseeing. His throat was ripped open and blood had spattered all over the room. Cam was nowhere to be seen, nor her mother. She ran down the stairs, her heart thumping wildly against her ribs. Her mother was sprawled floor surrounded by a pile of half-wrapped presents. Blood was everywhere. Sarah frantically looked around the room for Cam. Suddenly, Cam bounded into the room. Water dripped from his black fur like he had jumped into the pond. Sarah had never felt happier to see Cam. Thank god, at least he was not dead, Sarah thought with tremendous relief. Her parents had been a bore anyway. She sat down and scratched Cam behind the ears. Apparently the murderer had spared Sarah because he had realized how special she was. He had known she could do better than her parents.

Sarah decided to go to her friend's house and call the police later. Nothing could to ruin her special day. She snatched up her mother's purse and walked calmly out the door. She could take her friend Cindy, out for lunch. She jogged over to her friend's house and rang the doorbell over and over as if trying to see how many times she could ring before Cindy finished running down the stairs at breakneck speed. Cindy opened the door seconds later, panting. What took you so long, Cindy?" Sarah complained as they set off to the nearest restaurant. They had barely sat down when the waiter appeared with the menus and asked what they would like to drink. Both girls ordered Coke and started to select their dishes. They chose expensive meals and were just tucking in when Cindy picked up the newspaper and started babbling excitedly about a person who had lost a magic lamp. "Wow!" Cindy exclaimed enthusiastically. "Look at the picture! It doesn't look much like a lamp!" Sarah looked at the photograph. The lamp in the photo was identical to the lamp she had seen the day before. She remembered that she had been examining it before she had found Cam, the dog of her dreams. Wait, that lamp was supposed to be magic ? She had wished for a dog and a dog appeared. But what had happened to the Genie? Could Cam possibly be the... Sarah's thoughts were cut off as the waiter came over to give them the dessert menus. After lunch, Sarah went home and called Cam over to her side. "Cam, are you a Genie?" she asked hopefully. There was a long silence. Nothing happened. Disappointed, Sarah got up and started to go downstairs when she heard a soft but very clear "Yessss." Sarah looked around. Nobody was in the room besides Cam. It had to be the dog. Just then she heard a loud scream from below.

Annoyed, she looked out her window. Apparently someone had came to wish her a happy birthday and had seen her dead mother lying on the floor. Then she remembered. She had forgotten to call the police. Now it was too late. She could hear them storming up the stairs. Her door flew open and two police officers stomped in. "Why did you kill your parents?!" an angry police officer screamed in her ear. "Calm down, Bobby! the other said. "She's only a kid! ". "I didn't kill them!" Sarah wailed. The second police officer patted her on the back. "We know you didn't kill them," he said encouragingly. "Still, you will have to come with us for questioning. I heard it was your birthday, so we can come to pick you up tomorrow. How about 10:00 a.m in the morning?". "I don't want to go to questioning!" Sarah yelled. The police officers simply looked at each other and walked out the door. Sarah slammed the door behind them and flung herself onto her bed, sobbing. "I wish that tomorrow everyone in this village would die except for me and Cam!" she cried hysterically . Then nobody would have to take me to questioning!" Finally Sarah cried herself to sleep. She woke the next morning and looked at her alarm clock. It was 9:30 a.m. Soon the police would come to question her. She got up and dressed. Then she sat down and waited. Her heart was beating faster than ever. But 10:00 a.m came and went and nobody rang the doorbell. Soon it was 11:00 a.m and still nobody came. Sarah now felt very hungry, so she went out the door and walked to the caf next to her house deciding the police now knew she was innocent. When she reached the shop nearby , she found that everyone layed dead with their throats torn open. Soon she explored the whole village and found everyone dead except for Cam, who came running up to her with his tail wagging frantically. Sarah stared at the

streaks of blood that blemished his sleek and shiny fur. Sobbing, Sarah ran to her room and banged her head repeatedly against the wall. "How could I have been so stupid!" she sobbed. "The dog is the Genie! How can I live alone! I wish I were dead!" All of a sudden she looked up, horrified. The door flew open and Sarah heard something growling. She screamed and the last thing she saw were two unusually sharp front teeth.
