Care of your Cajon

Although your cajon is a relatively robust musical instrument, care still needs to be taken to keep it in peak condition.

1. It should be kept in a stable atmospheric environment, avoiding extremes in temperature and humidity 2. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight for extended periods, as with any wooden furniture the colour will eventually fade 3. Avoid bumping and dropping it, this will cause dents and scratches and possible breaks to the structure 4. The cajon can be played with plastic or metal brushes, but should not be hit with sticks or mallets 5. Discourage heavy hitters, they will quickly knock the cajon out of tune 6. Avoid wearing rings when playing, not only will it damage the surface of the cajon it will also cause bruising to the fingers 7. Be aware of metal buckles and studs on clothing that will scratch and dent the finished surfaces 8. Most surface marks should be easily removed with a wet, soft cloth and a mild soap

Treated respectfully, your cajon will give you many years of musical pleasure.
