7 Tips on How to take Care of your furniture

1. Avoid heat and light- The temperature of sunlight coming through the window can go above 140
degrees and such high temperature is enough to cook up the fine finishes of your beautiful furniture. It
can also lead to fading and shrinking of wood resulting in those ugly cracks. To protect your furniture
from such wear and tear situation, avoid placing furniture in areas with direct sunlight, or use drapes,
sheers or protective window films to guard against the sun’s rays.

2. Protect from damage- Furniture’s involving wooden material need uttermost care. Dusting must be
made a weekly task and more often if the furniture is placed in areas involving high traffic. Make it a
habit to provide cork or felt-bottomed coasters to set mugs and glasses on fine wood and trivets for hot
serving dishes. Place mats, table mats or padded table covers are also a great option to protect your
furniture from spills or scrapes.

3. Clean safely- Rubbing a dry cloth over dusty furniture can cause damaging surface scratches. Instead,
use a soft, clean cloth or cheesecloth dampened with water to wipe away dust particles. Greasy soil or
the film from cigarette smoke can be removed by gently wiping off with a sponge dipped in oil soap and
water.

4. Quick stain removal- If an accident happens, it’s better to cover up as quickly as possible. New stains
are not as stubborn as the old ones and are comparatively easier to remove. But, if you are unsure on
how to remove a particular stain then contact your furniture retailer; otherwise doing experiment can
cost you heavily.

5. Termite resistance- Valuables such as antiques are especially at risk and are likely to be damaged if
they are not protected. If you have wooden furniture then make sure that it is termite resistance. Do a
regular termite inspection and if possible get pest resistance polish done. For temporary protection, you
can coat the furniture with aloe vera, but it is advised to call an expert.

6. Pets – Pets never go well with the furniture in the house. These four legged family members should
be kept in their baskets and not on the furniture. They can chew, scratch or even poop on your furniture
if not trained well. Hairs, nails and scraping tug hard to the fabrics and are difficult to remove which can
also lead to certain allergies and diseases. So, if you have a pet then be extremely careful about their
behavior towards your furniture.

7. Relocation- People nowdays love to shift and experiment with furniture’s location, they don’t like the
permanent placement of furniture at a particular spot of their place. While shifting furniture should be
padded up with bubblewraps or cushions so that they don’t get those ugly dents and scratches. It’s
advised to hire packers and movers if you are shifting to a new place, as they exactly know how to pack
and move a particular furniture item with which you might not be familiar with.
