Introduction to wall lizards:

They are mostly small , carnivorous lizards that has a wide

distribution found in every continent except Antarctica.

They are often seen on walls , hence they are called as wall lizards. Some of their

species also lives on trees . There are almost 83 species of lizards in our country Pakistan. They

might be small or large in size but non of the lizards in Pakistan is venomous.

Lizard’s way of defending itself :

A lizard have unique way of defending itself form predators. For

example ;

 Biting : In lizards , biting is one of the defence mechanism to avoid injury from

predators. Most of the garden & home lizards bites are harmless, however, these bites

are not poisonous but they can cause pain.

 Tail-shedding : It is a common anti-predator mechanism among lizards. When lizards

breaks its tail , the predator is attracted towards the tail & lizard manages to escape.

 ‌Spikes & Spines : Many lizards have spikes & Spines on their bodies to protect

themselves from another animal attempting to eat them or do them harm .

Why lizards keep visiting our home?

Lizards can come due to various reasons, some of which is listed below ;

 ‌Home full of insects :

 The number one reason that lizards keep visiting our home is

because our house is full of Insects . After all , lizard will go where the food is & Insects are

their favourite food.

 Leaving our Doors & Windows Open :

If you leave your doors and windows open a lot,

you may be providing an easy access point to lizards to come in your houses.

 ‌Depends on the area where we live :

 Lizards are cold blooded creatures & needed to remain in

warm areas/ climate. So if you live in a warmer climate areas , you may be more likely to get

lizards in your house.

Geographically , there are some areas where lizards are more commen then the others , like :

houese that are located near the mountains tend to have more lizards then the other areas .

 ‌We have too Many Places For Them To Hide :

If our home is cluttered with a lot of objects it may become a popular place for lizards

to flock to in order to hide.

 ‌Lizards Tend to Live Water :

If you have any standing water in your home , a leaky pipe or

even garden ponds, you could be unknowingly attracting lizards.

 Fruits Could be Possible food Sources to Attract Them :

Even though Insects are the top reason why lizards are flocking to our

houses . Uncovered fruits or even vegetables could be possible food Sources that Attract them.

We don’t want to eat anything that lizards may have been in contact with , since lizards may be

carrying germs & bacteria that human shouldn’t be exposed to.

Why We don’t want Lizards in Our Home?

A lot of people may not want lizards in their homes/houses, as they have phobia of these animals

. However, there are a lot of reasons you wouldn’t want to live with lizards running around

loose in your . There are some of those reasons why don’t want to share our space with lizards.

 ‌Some lizards may Bite :

 This is specially difficult to deal with if you have small children

who may try to pick up small animals & play with them. This may lead our child getting

bitten by them .

 It is Not Sanitary:

Having any type of pest infestation in the home is not very sanitary; this

includes lizards , this is because wild lizards can be carrying germs that could cause illness

in human beings.

 They may Fall onto Humans:

Lizard’s that crawl up walls & onto ceilings may fall

unexpectedly onto Humans & other items .

 Lizards may Damage the Plants :

If we have plants or keep a garden , lizards may damage the Plants & this could be

devastating to our plants .

 They can get into Machines :

Small lizards can get into Machines or inside of other objects that could cause these

things to be non-functional.

 Lizards live their Droppings:

Lizards can leave their unsanitary waste droppings all

around our home. They may also even shed skin wherever they go & these dropped &

shedded skin may also attract more Insects which could worsen your lizard problem.

How to get Rid of them / How to Repel Lizards?

By following ways we can Repel Lizards:

 Scent of egg shells : A few carefully placed egg shells can both drive current lizards

population away and prevent new from coming indoors.

 Leave garlic, coffee powder, onion & chilli paper around your home : Other scents that

tend to deter lizards include garlic, coffee powder, onion & chilli powder. Mix some of

these scents up in a spray bottle with water & then mist the solution around your home.

 Leave tobacco powder around your home: Leaving tobacco around your home is highly

toxic to Lizards.

 Reduce the temperature in your home: If possible, we must reduce the temperature in our

homes to 70°F or below. Because warmer climate are more attractive to Lizards.

 Get rid of any stagnant water: Not only stagnant water attract more lizards , it also

provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

 Cover your fruits: We should also cover up any fruit that is sitting out because fruit can

attract more lizards & also other insects.

 Reduce the level of clutter in your home: Clutter can make it easier for lizards to hide.

This makes them harder to get rid of…

 Clean your home with bleach: Not only lizards do dislike the smell of this cleaning

chemical agents but bleach can eliminate scents that are alluring to them.

 Use glue traps: Glue traps can be very effective for trapping & removing them for your

home .

 Add screens to your windows: Adding screens to your windows & doors may help keep

lizards from coming in at these
