Teacher of Maths

Background Information

Mathematics at Christs school is delivered by a small team of experienced mathematics graduates. Each member has their own room which comes fully equipped with its own computer and interactive white board. The interactive boards use SMART notebook technology. Mathematics is delivered in accordance with the national curriculum, mainly by using Key Maths text books in the lower years and Collins GCSE Maths at Key Stage 4. We also teach using a variety of kinesthetic materials, rich activities from the Standards Unit, Boland mathematics projects, and homework is regularly set using the MyMaths website. Students are formally assessed on a regular 2/3 week basis and parents informed of progress made. Students are grouped by mathematical ability and are moved regularly depending on the results above. The department encourages an early entry policy for GCSE, and successful A & A* students take Additional Advanced Mathematics in year 11. The department has been praised on more than one occasion by OFSTED and various other inspectorate groups. Our aim is to continue to work well as a team, deliver excellent lessons, and provide opportunities for our students to achieve their best. If you need any further particular information about the department then please feel free to contact Lawrence Hartnett, Head of Mathematics.
