Summary: Accident detection systems help reduce fatalities stemming from car accidents by decreasing the response time

of emergency responders and also the failure of electronic door opening system. In this proposal we are presenting a novel architecture for automatic door open/close system with higher accuracy than the conventional system. First, we describe solutions to key issues associated with detecting accidents, such as preventing false positives by utilizing onboard sensors to detect large accelerations. Second, we present the architecture of our prototype an intelligent accident detection system and empirically analyze its ability to resist false positives as well as its capabilities for accident reconstruction. Third, we discuss how Smartphone-based or GSM based accident detection can reduce overall accidents and increase the preparedness of emergency responders. Introduction Improvements in safety features in cars ,like airbags, anti lock braking systems etc has reduced accidents considerably, but there are cases where in an accident the people may get locked up inside the car(people inside may be unconscious or badly hurt). This could cause a delay in getting medical support to them. As the door cant be unlocked from the outside, getting them out will take time. Most often this delay proves to be life threatening. These are the situations where the features like air bags and ASBs dont count. So, we would like to propose an automatic unlocking system to combat this problem. Here, we are introducing a system where the car doors will automatically unlock as soon as it undergoes an accident.

In this unlocking system we use a pressure sensor to sense the pressure inside the car so as to know whether there has been an accident or not. The output of this

pressure sensor can be used by the microcontroller to control the door lock system of the car. The system will be given separate control to unlock all doors and windows so that even if one or two doors get damaged during the accident the other doors will unlock. And also possible to release the seat belt and trigger the passengers to escape from the vehicle. In the second stage implementation the GSM module or smart phone based system will provide the accident information to the nearest help desk.
