Designing Cost Effective Autonomous Line Follower

Introduction The Line follower is a mobile machine which follows a line drawn on the floor. The machine is programmed in order to sense the line (ex: black colour line drawn on a white surface.) and make correct movements accordingly. Aim and objective The main objective of this project is to design and develop (prototype) a line follower robot which has an improved accuracy in the most cost effective way. Methodology First a method should be suggested in order to sense the line drawn on the ground surface. Suitable power source should be suggested considering all the power consumption devices used in the machine. Types of DC motors should be selected according to the power consumption, output torque, controllability and the size. DC motor control using PWM controlled four quadrant motor drive (Hbridge) Main control system (microcontroller), programming language, and the program Hardware system- designing and constructing the circuit (printed circuit board) Applications Automated Industrial equipment carriers and material handling. Tour guides in museums.
