Demeter Research Paper

Demeter is the goddess of agriculture and harvest according the Greek mythology. Demeters powers were to make nature such as trees; grass, plants, etc. grow. She also changed the seasons. Demeters symbols are the earths fruit and the torch. In my further research I never found out why Demeter represented a torch though all I knew about the torch was that she always held it. The Greek name for Demeter was Ceres. Demeters powers were to make nature such as trees, grass, plants, etc. grow and she also changed the seasons. The Greek goddess Demeter was born on the earth. No one knew the exact location, but according to my research she was put in the earth to help the farmers plant and other type of things that have to do with farming. Demeter is daughter of Rhea and Cronus. Demeter had brothers and sister which were Hestia, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and Zeus. Apparently Demeter was pregnant of Zeus and had her daughter which was named Persephone the goddess of fertility. Demeters daughter Persephone was in a stream carrying her paint pot. One day Persephone walked farther than the usual, while she was walking she saw a rare bush with large red berries. When Persephone got closer, she heard a rumbling sound. She heard it get closer until she saw a hole on the floor open. Right before you know it Hades the goddess of the underworld appeared and abducted Persephone. Since it was during summer, Persephones power was to fertilize all living things. While Demeter was away looking for her lost daughter she noticed that the plants, trees, and other type of nature would stop growing. All the living nature wouldnt grow until Persephone was returned back safe. Erebus didnt want to let Persephone go. Persephone had missed everything including her mother and since no one let her go, she has said she wouldnt

eat a thing. Until one day she went outside and saw a pomegranate tree. Since Persephone hadnt ate anything for days she was starving. So she decided to get a pomegranate. Until Hades had decided that evening to let Persephone return back with her mother.
