Terminology
This document uses the following terms:
host A computer that is or will be connected to a CLARiiON storage system. This computer is called either a management station or a server, depending on how it is or will be connected to the storage system. A host from which you manage CLARiiON storage systems. It must be on the same network as the storage-system management ports. A management host may also be a server. A host that is already or will be connected over a network to the iSCSI ports on a CLARiiON storage system. A management host may also be a server. A server that is not already connected to or set up for a CLARiiON storage system. The network interface card (NIC) or iSCSI host bus adapter (HBA) that is already installed in a server. The NIC or iSCSI HBA that was not already installed in the server. An AX4-5 series system with two storage processors (SPs) an AX4-5 or AX4-5i storage system. An AX4-5 series system with two storage processors (SPs) an AX4-5 or AX4-5i storage system with the expansion pack enabler installed. A storage system that is not connected to a server or configured for storage. It is just as it was shipped to you. A storage-system component that you can add to your storage system or replace in your storage system at your site. Examples of FRUs are disks andpower/cooling modules. A disk processor enclosure that contains 1 or 2 storage processors (SPs) and 4 to 12 disks. A disk-array enclosure that provides additional storage for a DPE-AX with 2 storage processors and an expansion pack installed. Each DAE-AX supports a maximum of 12 disks.

A printed-circuit board with processors, memory modules, and control logic that manages the I/O between the server and the disk modules. A set of disks with the same capacity and RAID type on which you create one or more virtual disks. A grouping of physical disk partitions into one span of disk storage space. Each virtual disk you create is distributed equally across the disks in the disk pool. A virtual disk looks like an individual disk to the servers operating system. A virtual disk is created with Navisphere Express. A NIC or iSCSI HBA port that issues requests to send data to or receive data from a target in the storage system. A storage-system SP port that accepts and responds to requests from an initiator. Such a port is called an iSCSI data port. Challenge Handshake Authentication Protocol. An optional security mechanism to control access to an iSCSI storage system over the iSCSI data ports. Microsoft Internet Storage Naming Service (iSNS) provides automated discovery, management and configuration of iSCSI devices.

For a new storage-system installation, you will need to: If you ordered a rackmount cabinet for your storage system To review the Site Preparation Guide for the 40U-C Cabinet, which shipped with the cabinet, to ensure that the site in which you want to install the storage system meets the site requirements. This guide is on the resources and documentation CD that shipped with the system and is available on in the Technical Documentation and Advisories section on the Powerlink website. Especially important is confirming that your facility has appropriate electrical wiring in place to accommodate your cabinets power cables. To support all of the storage systems high-availability features, the cabinet must receive power from two discrete circuits. To verify that your facility has: Electrical wiring in place to accommodate your installations power cables. To support all the storage systems high-availability features, you must receive power from at least two separate circuits. Adequate network wiring to provide each storage-system storage processor (SP) management port with a discrete Ethernet connection and IP address. The storage-system management ports can connect to either a 10/100/1000 or 1-gigabit Ethernet LAN. EMC recommends a 1-gigabit Ethernet LAN for best performance.

The following network information from the person responsible for your network: Static IP address for each SP in the storage system. Subnet mask for the LAN to which you will connect the storage-system management ports. Default gateway for the LAN to which you will connect the storage-system management ports. Storage-system iSCSI network information, including static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for each storage-system iSCSI port that you will use. The network configuration information, including the IP address and network mask, for any NICs or iSCSI HBAs that you are installing. Optional iSNS server information. CAT 5 or higher Ethernet network cables for storage-system management port connections (one per SP). For any installation, you will need: A Navisphere management station with a supported Internet browser for running Navisphere Manager and on the same network as the storage-system management ports. This host can also be a server. For supported host and browsers, refer to the E-Lab Interoperability Navigator on the Powerlink website. A supported Windows host on the same subnet as the storage-system management ports. You can use this host: As a Navisphere management station To initialize the storage system To run the Navisphere Service Taskbar, which runs only on a Windows host. As a CLARalert monitor station, which must be a Windows host, but cannot be a server (that is, it cannot send I/O to the storage-system data ports). A Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008 host that is or will be a server with iSCSI connections to the storage system. This server must have a supported server configuration; that is, it must have all required updates, such as hot fixes or patches, installed.

A Navisphere management station with a supported Internet browser that is on the same network as the storage-system management ports. This host can also be the server. For supported Internet browsers, see the AX4-5 release notes on the Service & Support page of the storage-system support website. A CAT 5, CAT 5e, or CAT 6 Ethernet network cable (100 meters maximum) for each iSCSI port that will connect the storage system though network routers or switches to the NICs or iSCSI HBAs in the server. We recommend CAT 6 cables for best performance. These cables may already be connected for a configuration with an existing storage system or existing server. For cable specifications, refer to Technical Specifications on the Learn page of the storage-system support website. For a network configuration, Ethernet network cables as needed for the hosts. These cables may already be connected for a configuration with an existing storage system or existing server.
We recommend discrete networks dedicated to iSCSI traffic. In a server with multiple NICs or iSCSI HBAs that are connected through network routers or switches to the storage system, each NIC or iSCSI HBA initiator port must be on a separate subnet.
For cable specifications, refer to Technical Specifications on the Learn page of the storage-system support website. A method for writing data to a virtual disk on the storage system that will test the paths from the server to the storage system. You can download an I/O simulator (Iometer) from the following website: http://www.iometer.org/.

The predrilled holes in the cabinet channels are based on the U measurement. The holes are predrilled at distances of 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, 5/8 inch (totaling 1 U), then 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, 5/8 inch (another U), and so on. On EMC 40U and 40U-C cabinets, the 1U increments are marked by a horizontal line or small hole in the channel. Table 3 lists typical height requirements.

Removing the filler panels In most cases, the front space into which you will install the enclosure is covered by a filler panel, which is attached to latch brackets. Remove any filler panels; then use a flat-blade screwdriver or similar tool to pry off the latch brackets (Figure 1).

Installing the DPE-AX and optional DAE-AX rails in the cabinet For each rail: 1. From the front of the cabinet, insert the two alignment pins on one mounting rail assembly into the holes on a rear channel as shown in Figure 2.

2. Attach the rail to the front cabinet channel as follows (Figure 3): a. Extend the rail to the front cabinet channel.

b. Align the holes of the front rail flange to the inside of the channel. c. Ensure that the rail is level, and loosely attach the rail to the channel with two M5 x 12.7 mm Phillips screws in the middle holes (Figure 3).
Leave the screws slightly loose to allow for adjustment after you install the enclosure.

3. At the back of the cabinet, insert and tighten two M5 x 12.7 mm screws in the holes above and below the alignment pins (Figure 3).

WARNING The enclosure is heavy and should be installed into a rack by two people. To avoid personal injury and/or damage to the equipment, do not attempt to lift and install the enclosure into a rack without a mechanical lift and/or help from another person.

CAUTION Without proper equipment and procedures, you risk damaging disk drives whenever you remove, store, or install them. Do not remove disks prior to installing the chassis. The disk modules in slots 0 through 3 of the DPE-AX provide mirrored boot and recovery capability, and are preconfigured according to their slot assignment before shipment. Do not move a module in slots 0 through 3 from its assigned slot to another slot. Remove one of these modules only if it has failed and you are replacing it with a new module.
1. Remove the four screws that are secured with washers and nuts to the black plastic latch brackets; keep the screws and discard the washers and nuts (Figure 4).

2. With help from another person, lift the enclosure and, from the front of the cabinet, slide the enclosure onto the rails (Figure 5).

When the enclosure slides to the back of the cabinet, the two notches in the rear of the enclosure insert into the rear tabs on the back corner of each rail. The tabs secure and support the rear of the enclosure.
If the enclosure does not slide all the way into the cabinet, you may need to further loosen the screws that hold the rear of the rails in place; adjust the rails to allow the tabs to fit into the notches.
3. Once the enclosure is completely seated into the rear tabs, tighten the four screws (two per rail) that secure the rails to the front channels. 4. Secure the enclosure and latch brackets to each front channel with the four latch bracket screws (Figure 6).

If your storage system includes optional DAE-AXs, connect the expansion ports between the storage processors (SPs) in the DPE-AX and the DAE-AXs as follows: (Figure 8): The expansion port on each SP connects to the corresponding primary port on the first DAE-AX in the loop; that is, the expansion port on SP A, on the right, connects to the port on the link control card directly above it (LCC A), and the expansion port on SP B, on the left, connects to the port on the link control card directly above it (LCC B). The DAE-AX expansion ports in their loops.

Connecting power cables to the DPE-AX and optional DAE-AXs (expansion system)
Connect the power and SPS serial cables: 1. Verify that any cabinet master switches are in the off position. 2. For a dual-SP system, verify that the power switch on each standby power supply (SPS) is off. 3. For a dual-SP system, use the sense cable to connect standby power supply A (SPS A) to the SPS serial ports (marked with a battery symbol) on SP A (Figure 9); if SPS B is present, use a sense cable to connect it to the serial port on SP B (Figure 11).

a. Use an AC power cord to connect each SPS to a separate power distribution unit (PDU) in the cabinet or a separate site power circuit. b. Use an AC power cord to connect DPE-AX power/cooling module A to SPS A, and to connect DPE-AX power/cooling module to SPS B , if present, or to another power source not shared with SPS A. c. Use AC power cords to connect any optional DAE-AX power/cooling modules A and B to different power sources. Do not connect a DAE-AX power/cooling module to an SPS.
As soon as a DAE-AX is connected to a live power source, it powers up immediately and its lights begin blinking.

2. If the storage system is installed in a cabinet or rack, turn on the master switch/circuit breakers for each cabinet or rack power strip (PDU). 3. Press the power button on SP A (Figure 14). When SP A powers up, SP B powers up automatically.

The storage system takes 8 to 10 minutes to complete its first powerup. Green activity lights flash during power on self-test (POST), and then the lights go off or remain steady. If you installed disk modules in DPE-AX slots 0-3, the system writes vital information to these disks during the first powerup. This process extends the first powerup by 25 to 30 minutes.
The system fault light on the front of the DPE-AX and the SPS recharge lights on the rear of the SPS commonly stay on for several minutes while the SPS units charge fully (Figure 15).

If any amber lights not related to the SPS recharging remain on after 10 minutes, make sure the storage system is correctly cabled. Some amber lights may indicate a problem you can solve later, once your storage-system management software (Navisphere Express) is available to help you troubleshoot the system. If the power button on each SP does not remain solid/steady green, contact your authorized service provider. If the power button on each SP remains solid/steady green, continue to the next section.

If Navisphere Express does not open, make sure that the storage system is not rebooting. The power button on each SP should be solid/steady green and the other lights should be off. 3. Log in to Navisphere Express by entering the username and password that you specified when you initialized the storage system.
To view Navisphere Express in Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, or simplified Chinese, follow the instructions in Adding a Navisphere Language Pack. You can create this document on the storage-system support website by selecting Upgrade and then Add Navisphere Language Pack as the upgrade type. Once you install a language pack, Navisphere Express automatically opens in that language.

d. Select the appropriate Navisphere Storage System Initialization Utility version to download and select the option to save the software to your server. e. In the directory where you saved the software, double-click the executable file to start the installation wizard. 3. To install the software from the server support CD, do the following: a. In the drive of a Windows server, insert the server support CD, which shipped with the storage system or the upgrade kit (for upgrading AX4-5 series or AX series systems to Navisphere Manager). The server support menu opens. Starting the initialization utility from a host To start the initialization utility from the server, select Start > Programs > EMC > Navisphere > Navisphere Storage System Initialization. When this storage-system discovery operation is complete, the utility lists, by hardware serial number, all uninitialized and initialized storage systems it found. The hardware serial number is on a blue label on the rear of the chassis. If the discovery operation did not find the storage system you are installing, verify that the storage systems management ports are properly cabled to the LAN on which the server resides. The management ports and the server must both reside on the same subnet. Proceed through the wizard screens, providing information where required. For more information about completing the wizard, click Help in the wizards menu bar. For an AX4-5 series storage system If you entered an SP IP address for the first time or changed an SP IP address, the utility reboots the storage system, and green lights flash to indicate activity. The amber SP fault light turns on. The special reset state gives you 15 minutes to reset the storage systems security settings. This 15-minute window stays active until one of the following occurs: You log in to the storage system with a valid username and password. You create a new user account. Install the storage-system software with the software upgrade feature of Navisphere Express or the Software Assistant, which is part of the Navisphere Service Taskbar (NST). With Navisphere Express you can install only one software package (FLARE OE version, enabler, or language pack) at a time. With the Software Assistant, you can install multiple software packages (FLARE OE version, enabler, language pack) at the same time; however, it requires a Windows host or server on the same network as the storage-system management ports. When to install a Navisphere language pack A Navisphere language pack is updated only if the Navisphere user interface (UI) changes in the FLARE OE. Typically the language pack is available after the English FLARE OE version is available. If you install FLARE OE with an updated Navisphere UI, then until you install the new version of the language pack, text changes in the Navisphere UI are displayed in English and unchanged text continues to be displayed in the language, including the Navisphere Express help text. To ensure that all text changes and help changes in the Navisphere UI are displayed in the language, you should update the language pack as soon as the new version is available. To determine if the Navisphere UI changed in a new FLARE OE version, refer to the AX4-5 Integrated

CAUTION During the software installation procedure: The storage system must not have any faulted or transitioning components. You can view the current state of storage-system components on the Navipshere Express View Components page. You must not power down or reboot the storage system, power down an SP, or remove any components. Doing so may put the storage system in a state from which it cannot be restarted. For a dual-SP system: The software installation procedure reboots SP A, and then after the reboot of SP A completes, it reboots SP B. This causes any connected servers that are not configured for high availability (not connected to each SP) to lose access to the storage system until the operation is completed.
1. If you are updating FLARE OE software, download the latest FLARE OE version from the CLARiiON AX4-5 part of the Downloads and Licensing section of the Powerlink website (http://Powerlink.EMC.com) onto the host or server from which you will install the software.

The FLARE OE software is in a .pbu file. 2. If you are installing an enabler: a. Locate the enabler CD that shipped in the AX4-5 software or upgrade kit, and insert it into the CD drive on the host or server from which you will install the software.
This host or server must be on the same network as the storage-system management ports.
b. Copy the enabler (.ena file) from the CD onto the host or server. c. Remove the CD from the CD drive. 3. On the server or host with the FLARE version or enabler that you want to install, start Navisphere Express for the storage system. 4. Wait until no storage-system components are in a transitioning state before continuing. You can view the current state of storage-system components on the Navisphere Express View Components page. 5. In the navigation pane under System, click Software. 6. On the System Software page, click Upgrade Software. Prior to installing the software on the storage system, Navisphere Express performs a series of pre-installation checks to ensure that the storage system is in a ready state. If problems exist, the software will ask you to fix them so it can continue the installation. 7. Either enter the path for the software .pbu or .ena file you just downloaded or browse for it, and click Upgrade. 8. Monitor the status of the installation in the Software Upgrade Status window. After the installation is complete, the storage system reboots automatically. On a dual-SP system, one SP reboots, and when it has finished, the other SP reboots. You cannot restart Navisphere Express for the storage system, until the reboot is complete, which could take a couple minutes. When the reboot is complete, the power button on each SP remains solid/steady green. When the storage system reboots, you may see an error message, such as

Action Cancelled, in the browser. If you see an error message, close the browser, wait for the storage system to complete the reboot, and then reopen the browser and restart Navisphere Express for the storage system. If you do not see an error message, wait until the reboot is complete before continuing.
b. Copy the enabler (.ena file) from the CD into the c:\emc\repository\Downloads folder. c. Remove the CD from the CD drive. 3. For each Navisphere language pack that you want to install, download the language pack from the CLARiiON AX4-5 part of the Downloads and Licensing section of the Powerlink website into the c:\emc\repository\Downloads folder.

Installing storage-system software using the Software Assistant 1. On the Powerlink website, navigate to the CLARiiON Tools page and select your CLARiiON system.
To access the CLARiiON Tools page, use the Navigator drop-down menu at the top right of the Powerlink home page.
2. In the navigation pane, click CLARiiON Software Update tools and then CLARiiON Software Update (Standard). 3. On the CLARiiON Software Update (Standard) page: a. Complete step 1 to determine if you can use the update process. b. If the storage system is a dual-SP system with one or more servers connected to its data ports, complete step 2 to validate the server environment; otherwise, skip this step. c. Complete step 3 to install the Navisphere Service Taskbar (NST) on the Windows server or host from which you will install the storage-system software. After you accept the NST license agreement, the installation wizard verifies that the server is running the supported Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version. If the server is running an earlier version of the JRE, select Yes when asked if you want to continue with the installation. The installation wizard prompts you to download and install the later version of the JRE from the Sun website. If the server is running a later version of the JRE, the installation wizard asks if you want to continue with the installation. Select Yes to continue or No to quit the installation.
Important: If you select Yes, the NST may not work properly with a later JRE version. If you select No, and manually remove the later version of the JRE, other applications that require this version may not work properly.

4. Start the Navisphere Service Taskbar by doing either one of the following: Click the Navisphere Service Taskbar icon on your desktop, or Select Start > All Programs or Programs > EMC > Navisphere > Navisphere Service Taskbar version > Navisphere Service Taskbar version 5. In the NST click the Software Assistant tab, select the Prepare for Installation wizard. 6. If the Navisphere Connection screen opens: a. Enter the IP address for an SP in the storage system. b. Click Connect. c. Enter your Navisphere login username, password, and scope (global, local, or LDAP) and click OK.
Once you connect to a storage system, you do not need to reconnect to it again during the NST session. To connect to a different storage system, you must disconnect the current storage system by selecting File > Disconnect.
7. Follow the recommended steps, being sure to do the following in the Prepare for Installation wizard: For a dual-SP system If I/O between the servers and the storage system is shut down, on the Server readiness for software update page, select the checkbox in the Override HA Status column for each server listed. 8. When the Prepare for Installation wizard is finished, start the Install Software wizard. 9. Follow the instructions that appear to install the desired software packages. 10. When the installation is complete, select Notify your service provider with updated storage system configuration information, and click Finish. 11. Exit the Navisphere Service Taskbar by selecting File > Exit. After the installation is complete, the storage system reboots automatically. On a dual-SP system, one SP reboots, and when it

has finished, the other SP reboots. CAUTION NICs or iSCSI HBAs are very susceptible to damage caused by static discharge and need to be handled accordingly. Before handling NICs or iSCSI HBAs, observe the following precautions: Store NICs or iSCSI HBAs in antistatic bags. Use a ground (ESD) strap whenever you handle NICs or iSCSI HBAs. Never plug or unplug NICs or iSCSI HBAs with the power on. Severe component damage can result.
1. If the server is powered up: a. Shut down the servers operating system. b. Power down the server. c. Unplug the servers power cord from the power outlet. 2. Put on an ESD wristband, and clip its lead to bare metal on the servers chassis.

Installing NIC or HBA iSCSI initiator software (Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 hosts only)
You must install NIC or HBA iSCSI initiator software on each server with NICs or iSCSI HBAs that you will connect to the storage system.
You must install the Microsoft iSCSI Software Initiator because the Navisphere Server Utility uses it to configure iSCSI connections.
Downloading and installing the Microsoft iSCSI software initiator (Windows 2000 or Windows Server 2003 hosts only)
1. Open a web browser and connect to the Microsoft website: http://www.microsoft.com 2. Go to the Downloads page. 3. Search for iscsi initiator. 4. Select and download the latest supported initiator software and related documentation. For information on supported software on an AX45 series or AX series storage system, refer to the support matrix on the Install page of the storage-system support website, or to the Supported Configurations in the Technical descriptions section of the storage-system support website. To determine which file to download: a. Right-click My Computer, select Manage, and then select System Information > System Summary or Select Start > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > System Tools > Device Manager. b. View the System Type or Computer option. If x86 is displayed, you have a 32bit system. If IA64, AMD64, or x64 is displayed,

you have a 64bit system and need to install the appropriate 64bit version (IA or AMD). 5. Depending on which version of PowerPath you are running, at the Installation Options screen, select one of the following: PowerPath 4.6 or later For NICs select Initiator Service > Software Initiator > Microsoft MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI, then click Next.
If the Microsoft MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI option is not checked, the installer will attempt to uninstall the Microsoft iSCSI DSM and the core MS MPIO files. However, if there is another DSM installed, such as the one included with PowerPath 4.6 or later, then the core MS MPIO files will not be uninstalled. The setup wizard determines if another DSM is installed by checking the MS MPIO supported device list.
For iSCSI HBAs select Initiator Service > MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI, then click Next.
Do not select Software Initiator for iSCSI HBAs.
PowerPath 4.5.1 or earlier For NICs select Initiator Service > Software Initiator, and click Next.
Do not select Microsoft MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI.

If you have a NIC and will be modifying the TCP/IP registry settings in the next section, you do not need to reboot now.

3. Select Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties and specify the IP address for the NIC. If the NIC is a replacement for a previously installed NIC, assign it the same IP address as the NIC it replaced, so that it automatically has the same iSCSI initiator settings and optional CHAP security settings as the NIC it replaced.

EMC recommends that you install the most recent version of the Navisphere Server Utility software that is appropriate for your configuration. You can download the most recent version from the software download page on the Powerlink website or on the storage-system support website. You can also install the software from the server support CD; however, the CD may not contain the most recent version for your configuration.
If you are running PowerPath 4.6 or later, you must install version 6.22.20 or later of the Navisphere Server Utility.

If you do not have the host agent installed, do not disable the registration service feature (it is enabled by default). The registration service feature automatically registers the servers NICs or HBAs with the storage system after the installation and updates server information to the storage system whenever the server configuration changes (for example, when you mount new volumes or create new partitions). If you have the host agent installed and you are installing version 6.22.20 or later of the server utility, the server utilitys registration service feature will be disabled by default and we recommend that you do not install it. Prior to version 6.22.20 of the server utility, you could not install both applications on the same server.
5. If you are prompted about updating information when the server starts, click Yes. 6. If you are prompted to reboot the server, click Yes.
You must reboot the server when the installation dialog prompts you to reboot. If the server is connected to the storage system with NICs and you do not reboot before you run the server utility, the NIC initiators cannot log in to the storage system.
7. When the installation is complete, click Done to exit the wizard. 8. If you installed the server utility from the CD, close the server support menu by selecting Main Menu and then Exit. You can now remove the CD from the servers CD drive.

Before you modify the registry, make sure you back it up and understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. Depending on your operating system type, follow the appropriate procedure below to modify the TCP/IP settings for network interfaces carrying iSCSI traffic so that they immediately acknowledge incoming TCP segments. Configuring NIC initiators on Windows servers to connect to the storage-system iSCSI targets without iSNS
Use the Navisphere Server Utility to configure the network parameters for each NIC initiator that needs access to the storage system. 1. On the server, open the Navisphere Server Utility. 2. Select Configure iSCSI Connections on this server and click Next. 3. Select Configure iSCSI Connections and click Next. 4. In the iSCSI Targets and Connections window, select one of the following options to discover the iSCSI target ports on the connected storage systems: Discover iSCSI targets on this subnet - Scans the current subnet for all connected iSCSI storage-system targets. The utility scans the subnet in the range from 1 to 255. For example, if the current subnet is 10.12.77, the utility will scan the IP addresses from 10.12.77.1 to 10.12.77.255.
If CHAP authentication is enabled on all target ports on a storage system, you cannot discover the iSCSI target ports using a subnet scan. You must discover the targets using the target portal.
Discover iSCSI targets for this target portal - Discovers targets known to the specified iSCSI SP data port. 5. Click Next. 6. For each target you want to log in to: a. In the iSCSI Targets window, select the IP address of the Inactive target.

b. Under Login Options, select Also login to peer iSCSI target for High Availability (recommended) if the peer iSCSI target is listed. This option allows the utility to create a login connection to the peer target so if the target you selected above becomes unavailable, data will continue to the peer target.
CAUTION If multiple NICs are on the same subnet and you leave the Server Network Adapter IP option set to Default, only one NIC is actually used at a time. Other NICs are in standby mode. If you leave the Server Network Adapter IP option set to Default and a NIC fails, the server will use one of the other NICs, even if they are on the same subnet, as long as there is a network path from the storage system to the NIC that is in standby mode. c. If you selected Also login to peer iSCSI target for High Availability (recommended) in the previous step, leave the Server Network Adapter IP set to Default to allow the iSCSI initiator to automatically fail over to an available NIC in the event of a failure.
If you are an advanced user and you want to control which network or subnet is used, you can select a Server Network Adapter IP address from the drop-down list but failover may not occur if you do not have the appropriate failover software.
d. Click Logon to connect to the selected target. 7. Click Next. One of the following windows is displayed: Network Interfaces (NICs) window This window is displayed if all of the following statements are true: the NICs are on the same subnet as an iSCSI target connected to this server.

the NICs appear to be used primarily for iSCSI traffic rather than general network traffic. the NICs do not already have the recommended TCP settings enabled. This window allows you to update network settings on the selected NICs so that the NICs immediately acknowledge incoming TCP segments. Server registration window This window is displayed and lists all connected storage systems if the above conditions are not true. 8. If the Network Interfaces (NICs) window is displayed: a. Uncheck any NICs that will be used for general network traffic and click Apply.
If a NIC is not listed and it is used primarily for iSCSI traffic, complete the remaining steps in this section and refer to the server utilitys online help for information on using the Optimize Network Interface (NICs) for iSCSI option. This option lists all the NICs on your server and allows you to manually select which NICs you want to immediately acknowledge incoming TCP segments for.
A confirmation dialog is displayed stating that the network settings for your NICs have been updated but that you must restart your system to apply them. b. Click OK and then Next. 9. In the server registration window, click Next to send the updated information to the storage system. A success message is displayed. 10. Click Finish to close the wizard.

Starting the Navisphere Server Utility on a Windows server from the CD 1. Log in to the Windows server as the administrator or someone who has administrative privileges. 2. In the servers drive, insert the server support CD, which shipped with the storage system or the upgrade kit (for upgrading AX4-5 series or AX series systems to Navisphere Manager). The server support menu opens. If you do not see the server support menu, open it: From the Windows taskbar, select: Start > Run In the Run dialog box, enter:

drive:\locales\en_US\start.html where drive is the letter for the CD drive. Click OK. 3. From the main menu select Run Products from CD. The RUN PRODUCTS page opens. 4. Select Navisphere Server Utility. Registering the server using the Navisphere Server Utility on a Windows 1. In the Navisphere Server Utility dialog box, select Register this server to all connected storage systems. The utility automatically scans for all connected storage systems and lists them under Connected Storage Systems. Locate the WWN of the NIC or iSCSI HBA you just installed. The NIC or iSCSI HBA should appear once for every SP port it is connected to.
If the utility is already running, it does not automatically perform a scan, and you must click Rescan.
2. Click Next to register the server with the storage system. The utility sends the servers name and IP address of the NIC or iSCSI HBA to each storage system. Once the server has storage on the storage system, the utility also sends the device name and volume or file system information for each LUN (virtual disk) in the storage system that the server sees. 3. Click Finish to exit the utility.
If the status is Inactive, either the physical connection between the NIC or iSCSI HBA and the storage system is faulty or the server is not powered up.

If Navisphere Express does not open, make sure that the storage system is not rebooting. The power button on each SP should be solid/steady green and the other lights should be off. 3. Log in to Navisphere Express by entering the username and password that you specified when you initialized the storage system.

To view Navisphere Express in Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Latin American Spanish, or simplified Chinese, follow the instructions in Adding a Navisphere Language Pack. You can create this document on the storage-system support website by selecting Upgrade and then Add Navisphere Language Pack as the upgrade type. Once you install a language pack, Navisphere Express automatically opens in that language.
Configuring storage and event notification on a new storage system with Navisphere Express
1. Locate your completed storage-system disk information worksheet so you can refer to it in the steps that follow. 2. Create one or more hot spares.
A hot spare is a single global spare disk that serves as a temporary replacement for any failed disk in the storage system. The storage system automatically reconstructs data from the failed disk onto the hot spare, so the data is always available. If you have both SAS and SATA disks in the storage system, we strongly recommend that you create a hot spare for each type of disk. A SAS disk can be a hot spare for a SATA disk and vice versa, but using a SAS disk as a hot spare for a SATA disk will most likely degrade the disk pool performance. Using a SATA disk as a hot spare for a SAS disk could waste disk space since the SATA drives generally have greater storage capacity.
In the navigation pane, under Manage, click Hot Spare. For details on creating a hot spare, use the Navisphere Express Help Center. 3. Create one or more disk pools on which to create virtual disks.

A disk pool is a set of disks, all with the same capacity and redundancy, on which you create one or more virtual disks. A RAID 6 disk pool usually has 6 or 12 disks, but can have 4, 8, 10, 14, or 16 disks. RAID 6 disk pools are supported only for AX4-5 series storage systems running FLARE OE version 02.23.050.5.7xx or higher. A RAID 5 disk pool must include at least three disks, a RAID 3 disk pool must include five or nine disks, and a RAID 1/0 disk must include at least two disks. The storage system supports a maximum of thirty disk pools.
In the navigation pane, under Manage, click Disk Pools. For details on creating a disk pool, use the Navisphere Express Help Center. For a dual-SP system, you should create at least two disk pools since the software assigns each disk pool you create to an SP as follows: disk pool 1 to SP A, disk pool 2 to SP B, disk pool 3 to SP A, and disk pool 4 to SP B. All the virtual disks you create on a disk pool are automatically assigned to the same SP as the disk pool, so if you create only one disk pool on the storage system, all virtual disks on the storage system are assigned to SP A and all data received or sent goes through SP A only.
The disk modules marked 0 through 3 contain storage-system software or reserved space according to their slot assignment. Do not move any disk marked 0 through 3 from its assigned slot. Remove it only to replace the disk module. Part of the space on these disks is reserved or preloaded with system data, and as a result, is not available for your data. If you combine operating system disks in a disk pool with other disks, each of the other disks loses space for your data equal to the system data space on an operating system disk.

In the navigation pane, under Manage, click Virtual Disks. For details on creating a virtual disk, use the Navisphere Express Help Center. If you want to connect additional servers to the storage system, you can create virtual disks for them now. However, you must wait until the servers are connected and registered before you can assign these virtual disks to them. 5. Assign one or more virtual disks to the server.
To send data to or receive data from the virtual disks, you must assign the virtual disks to a server.
In the navigation pane, under Manage, click Virtual Disks. For details on assigning a virtual disk to a server, use the Navisphere Express Help Center. 6. Verify that the virtual disks were assigned to the server by viewing the Manage Servers page. In the navigation pane, under Manage, click Servers. You should see the virtual disks you assigned to the server listed in the Virtual Disks column of the servers row. 7. Use the Event Notification page to configure the storage system to send an email message when it encounters a problem. In the navigation pane, under System, click Settings, and then click Event Notification. For details on configuring the storage system to send email messages, use the Navisphere Express Help Center.
Verifying that each virtual disk is fully initialized using Navisphere Express
Although a new virtual disk is assigned to the server, the server cannot see the new disk until it is fully initialized. The time to complete the initialization process varies with the size of the virtual disk and other parameters. For example, a 1 TB virtual disk in a RAID 5 disk pool of

11 disks can take about 70 minutes to initialize with no host I/O to other virtual disks in the disk pool. To determine if any virtual disks are initializing: 1. Start Navisphere Express on the storage system with the virtual disks. 2. In the navigation pane under Manage, click Virtual Disk. 3. In the Manage Virtual Disks screen, if the status of any virtual disk is Initializing, wait until the initialization is complete before continuing. 4. If the virtual disk is connected to a server running Windows Server 2003, reboot the server.
Verifying that PowerPath for Windows sees all paths to the virtual disks
1. On the server, configure PowerPath: powermt config 2. On the Windows taskbar, either double-click the PowerPath Administrator icon or right-click the icon and select PowerPath Administrator. 3. In the results pane, verify that the path metric for each virtual disk is n/n where n is the total number of paths to the virtual disk.

PowerPath shows the paths from the server to the virtual disks that you expect for your configuration.
through them, their status is degraded, and their path metric is m/n, where n is the number of paths to the disk and m is the number of working paths, which is less than n. For example, if the server has 4 paths to a disk in the storage system and 1 path fails when you disconnect the cable, then n=4 and m=3, so the path metric is 3/4. d. Reconnect the cable that you disconnected from the NIC or iSCSI HBA. e. Right-click the PowerPath Monitor icon on the taskbar, and select All Tasks and Restore All Devices. f. After several seconds, look at the details pane and verify that none of the disks in the storage system have red slashes through them, their status is optimal, and their path metric is n/n.
