Meaning and Definition of Motivation:According to Fred Luthans, "motivation is a process that starts with a physiological or psychological deficiency of a need, that activates behavior or a drive that is aimed at a goal or incentive. The above definition highlighted three elements needs, drives and goals.

Needs are basic wants and desires that exist in each individual.
Drives are the motives, that fulfill the needs. Goals are the means employed, to generate the desired outcome.

4. Goal-oriented and action-oriented 5. Board concept 6. Beneficial to employees and management 7. Varied measures available for motivation

Maslows Hierarchy of needs theory:Maslow explains the Hierarchy of needs as applied to workers follows:

1. Physiological Needs:- The basic needs are food, clothing, shelter, thirst, hunger, sleep etc. 2. Love and Safety:- provide security for the physical and emotional environment. E.g.- housing and clothing etc.

3. Social Needs:- Social needs are to contact and friendship with fellow-workers, social activities and opportunities.
4. Esteem Needs:- After the fulfilling the above needs a man think of his recognition.

5. Self-actualization:- It is need for personal growth. Human being brings into reality means achieving his dreams or ideas.
