The Stove is seeking expressions of interest for three commissions for research-led, temporary public projects.

The Stove is a new artist-collective operating from a prominent three-storey town centre property and developing projects around the evolving identity of Dumfries as a contemporary Scottish regional capital. www.thestove.org Inbetween:Dumfries (5-11th November 2012) is an event made up of a series of specially commissioned creative projects (8 in total) presented in the public spaces of Dumfries. (One of the projects will be a two-day discussion programme presented by http://www.intersectionspublicart.org.uk/ focusing on the role of culture in the development of small market towns.) To create three of the Inbetween:Dumfries projects we are seeking artists from all disciplines who are interested in spending time in Dumfries to research and develop an artwork, to be presented as part of the overall event. (NB this is a separate and additional brief to the one issued in early April) Artforms In this context we are defining an artwork as anything ranging from a film to a performance to a song to a social media campaign... something that is rooted in the place it was created for and engages the public in its creation or presentation. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who would like to work with digital/social media, as well as literature, performance and music, but will consider all artforms. We are keen to offer these opportunities to young and emerging creative people and will give precedence to applications from people who are at an early stage of their practice. Themes Although open to other proposals, three themes we would like to see developed are: Links between Dumfries and rural environment Inhabiting in Dumfries (and issues of land ownership) Futures, imagined or forecast, including post-capitalist options Budget - 2000 per commission to include all fees and costs for delivery of completed artwork.
