TRADE DESCRIBED BY PRODUCTS TRADED BASED ON CPA 2008

This "Trade Described by Products Traded" document is the outcome of the work of a Task Force led by Eurostat and made of the following Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Netherlands, Poland and Portugal. It is divided into two distinct parts: the first allocates each good-related item of the CPA 2008 to the three wellknown distribution channels, namely, retail trade, wholesale trade and wholesale trade on a fee or contract basis. In the second part the coverage of each distribution channel is described with the help of a list of typical goods. Since it is not based on any legal text, this document has no binding force for the Member States. Indeed, this was not the objective of the exercise. The stated aim was primarily to provide European statisticians with a tool allowing them to use wherever possible a common language in talking about distribution activities. Experience gained from the first exercise led in 1996 shows that Member States have used this information for various purposes, inter alia as a tool for classifying statistical units or interpreting NACE, or as an input for drafting explanatory notes and alphabetical indexes. The files below are disseminated only via electronic means which makes it possible to continuously improve the document. The changes carried out over time will be listed in a separate ad hoc file.
