Recent Notes on Greater/ more

The number of apples is greater than the number of oranges The amount of water is greater than the amount of juice The clarity of water is greater than that of juice The fraction of the population who smoke is greater than those who do not [smoke]

here is one conflict between the reasoning stated by Kaplan and GMAT. Kaplan says use "greater than" for numbers alone and use "more than" for rest of the cases. But this does not hold true in many of the cases. 1. If you are talking about an increase in single statistics then use "grater than". 2. If you are counting things and not referring to "the number" or "the population" or any other single statistics then use "more than". HTH
