DOWN, BUT NOT OUT! QUQ loses restraining order and will continue online, without City contract and is already prepping for the next legal phase Albuquerque, NMDistrict Court Judge Alan Malott ruled today against Quote-Unquote Media Centers request for a temporary restraining order to keep the city from transferring the public access contract to uPublic, run by self-described upublican Rick Metz. This is a major loss to the City of Albuquerque and to the public at large. The train is not at a complete stop though, folks. Judge Malott determined there was insufficient evidence to overthrow decisions made by the legislative branch but that todays ruling has no bearing on the ultimate outcome of any potential lawsuits. QUQ is in the planning stages of moving to another location by the end of the current contract, June 30th, or after receipt of an order of eviction which normally provides thirty days notice to move out. QUQ will be informing our producers regarding next steps and how QUQ will continue to operate online. QUQ will operate in a new location and perhaps as a primarily volunteer organization with memberships and grant writing support. QUQ is forming a Transition Committee and will continue to keep volunteer producers and potential students abreast of on-going developments as the nonprofit moves into this next phase un-tethered to the unpredictable nature of city contracts.
