Classroom Management Philosophy

I believe the following standards are essential to creating a respectful and comfortable classroom environment that is conducive to learning: 1. Clear classroom expectations and routines An organized classroom in which routines and expectations are clear to all students minimizes confusion and allows students to focus on the learning process. I also find it beneficial to include students in the development of classroom expectations. This promotes ownership, understanding, and accountability on the part of each student. 2. Motivating and Engaging Lessons It is important to take a proactive approach to classroom management by creating lessons and activities that keep students engrossed and motivated. Students will keep their focus on learning when they are engaged and feel their personal needs and interests are being met. My goal is to create interactive lessons that appeal to multiple learning styles and to be flexible in order to meet my students needs. 3. Positive Relationships I believe that building positive relationships is critical to creating a respectful and nurturing classroom. This kind of positive environment motivates students to do their best and to behave respectfully to themselves and others.

"In an effective classroom students should not only know what they are doing, they should also know why and how." --Harry Wong
