A service is rented rather than owned means that the Customers are rented, never owned. The common definition of rent is to pay something that you borrowed like the apartment. In economics, rent is the yearly value of a piece of land. It is a return to capital goods and labor services. Owned is to own something but it dont return capital goods and labor services. Its true that its better to own something than to rent but it depends on how the situation is. For example buying a house. buying a house costs more than to rent on a monthly basis. For the owners, rent is more important because they get income and capital.
