Dear Mr. Robbins, Caught by surprise, cut off, surrounded, and outnumbered in freezing temperatures.

These are the conditions the legendary Chosin Few found themselves in when they made their legendary stand in 1950. These brave mens actions over the course of the battle made them legends, but it came at a terrible price. I propose a feature of about 2,500 words on some of the veterans who fought in this epic campaign. The article will give background on several of the veterans, from their reason for joining the service, to their arrival in Korea, to the battle itself. At its heart this article is not a textbook retelling of a historical event, but a boots on the ground view of a grand and savage battle from the men who fought it. This article will show readers the Korean War in all its brutality. It will show in vivid detail the sacrifices of the young men who fought in the forgotten war. I have already conducted a series of interviews, and I assure you these mens stories are brutal, tragic, enthralling, but above all fascinating. They give an insight into the Korean War your readers will never forget. Their tales of battle, war crimes, horror, and courage would no doubt be of great interest to your readers. I believe this first hand view will excite the readers of American History much more than just a standard retelling of the battle. It offers a perspective on history that cannot be found on TV or in a book, and for that reason your readers will greatly enjoy it. My experience includes writing for Mt. San Antonio Colleges award winning magazine Substance, as well as serving as opinion editor for the college newspaper, The Mountaineer. I have also received awards from the Journalism Association of Community Colleges and the California College Media Association. As a current history major I believe I am very well qualified to write this piece. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
