Constipation

When the urge to defecate is ignored

Rectal mucous membrane and musculature become insensitive to the presence of fecal masses and consequently a stronger stimulus is required to produce necessary peristaltic rush for defecation

Irritability of the colon due to fecal retention

Colicky abdominal pain or low abdominal pains

Colon loses muscular tone and becomes unresponsive to normal stimuli

Constipation

Atony or decreased muscle tone occurs with aging
