STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

As I take a trip down memory lane, I can vividly recall the days when I used to watch and admire the glow of Neon lights and the images on the television box, I used to secretly yearn for the day when I would be able to understand what lay behind their working, and when I would be able to fiddle with their mechanisms myself. It set the ball rolling in me, and I was determined to implement my ideas using technical knowledge. My first step in this direction was towards becoming an Electrical engineer. Napoleon Bonaparte said," The word 'Impossible' exists in the dictionary of fools". My concern was how I could realize my childhood dreams and boyhood plans. I was aware of the fact that knowledge is vast and application has no limits. Acquiring the appropriate knowledge with its various ramifications, and study of fields with its varieties, became my priorities. It dawned upon me that Electrical Engineering is a field with infinite possibilities. It is one of the very few fields, which has traveled so quickly from laboratory research to broad applications that affect almost every part of our daily lives. It has shown profound effect on the common man's life and definitely it will intensify and become more pervasive. It was like entering a world of fantasy, but the truth being that what I had envisioned was attainable. My first step in this regard was to pursue a Diploma course in Electrical, and thus opened myself to the various intricacies that lay behind the functioning of various motors, as well as appliances; my natural inclination for the same made it all the more easier. My passion for solving crosswords and puzzles made me realize the hidden talent in me with regard to my analytical skills, which proved to be an added advantage. My rank and percentile in the Diploma examinations earned me an admission into the Undergraduate program in Electronics and Communications Engineering at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, established in the year 1946, the first technological university in India. My experiences here were not only limited to the extremely rigorous curriculum but also to various laboratories, camps and seminars. The courses that I have credited gave me an insight into the intricacies of electricity and its ramifications. Supported by a highly efficient faculty, I began to gain my initial footholds wherein I was encouraged to participate actively in group discussions, thus stimulating me to think independently. Besides augmenting my subject knowledge, I was also made aware of the fact that learning is fun, and shouldnt be treated as a burden. During my Undergraduate study, I was exposed to fascinating subjects like Operations Research and Control Systems, besides my core subjects such as Electrical Machines, Transmission and Distribution and Power Electronics. Apart

from the theoretical subjects, I always worked towards improving my management skills. Having gained expertise in my core subjects, I took part in Industrial visits and apprenticeships to improve upon my engineering skills. While working on these projects, I gained experience on the topics, which until now were just a part of my textbook knowledge. Through continuous practice, I have developed a keen perceptive and pellucid understanding of the subjects and improved my troubleshooting and debugging skills. A clear understanding of the fundamentals as well as the finer aspects of the multifarious electrical field has intensified my quest to acquire more knowledge. At this juncture, my childhood ambition dawned upon me, and I realized that as I was equipped with basic technical skills, I had to equip myself with a Masters degree to gain the required expertise in my fields of interest.

I realized that mere bookish knowledge wouldn't get me far, and that I should have in me the capability to convey my ideas to the world; for that, interpersonal and communication skills are inevitable. For this, I made it a point to actively involve myself in the various departmental activities and programmes held in college. I felt privileged to hold the position of class representative for three consecutive years, thus helping to build up on my managerial skills. I had taken many seminars for my classmates, which were highly appreciated both by my faculty as well as my colleagues. I represented my department and college in various state level technical symposia, and inter college competitions. I had presented papers on Latest trends in Electronics and came runner-up on two such occasions. I had been the head of the quizzing committee in my college, and participated in various quiz competitions. All these have helped me gain invaluable experience in dealing and mingling with new people, thus enabling healthy interaction and exchange of ideas.

I can proudly say that the highlight of my undergraduate study and my engineering knowledge over these 3 years is my project work. Working under the guidance of Mr SAYED KAREEMSAHEB, who has been actively involved with the electronics industry for the past 20 years, and who also serves as an Head of The Department and Associate Professor at our university, enabled me to broaden my horizons with regard to the subject and I was awestruck by the endless possibilities that this field could offer. Five years from now, I envision myself well positioned; conducting research, widening my scope with passing time, and giving me utmost satisfaction. I can aver that I possess in me an ever-burning desire to amass technical skills and a prolific aptitude for teaching. I have selected your University as the place for me to pursue my Master's degree because I found that the graduate program in

Electrical Engineering there would provide me an ambient atmosphere, supported by an eminent faculty, excellent research facilities, which are very much conducive to my fields of interest. After researching thoroughly the website of your University, I found the research programs there to be very interesting and would like to be a part of the excellent research programs. I have always strived to keep abreast with the latest engineering trends and given a chance to be a part of this team, I would put in maximum efforts to prove my mettle and bring in laurels to the University. I whole-heartedly believe that your University is the right place for me to embark upon an academic career. I will work to the best of my abilities so as to prove myself an asset to the University. The path to success is an arduous one, but I believe that I have it in me the motivation and necessary perseverance to embark upon it, no matter how many difficulties I may face along the way. Please consider my genuine interest in this field and enable me to take a step forward in this direction by granting me an admission to the University. Looking forward to a period of symbiosis at your University. Thanking you for giving me a chance to express my hopes and aspirations.
