Chapter 2 FREQUENCY SELECTIVE NETWORKS Section-1


1. Explain the analysis of series RLC circuit with pole zero diagrams and suggest any one application of it. 2. Explain the effect of a non ideal voltage source on the performance of the series resonant circuit 3. Explain the analysis of parallel RLC circuit. Show its application to amplify the current. 4. Show how as transformer can be used as a parallel tuned circuit and give the design expressions and the frequency analysis of the same. 5. Explain in detail the concept of Auto transformer . What is the use of a Autotransformer. 8. How can one achieve resonant conditions for series RLC connection? 9. Explain the concept of Capacitve transformer and state its use in communication circuits. 10. Obtain the equivalent circuit of capacitive transformer. 11. Obtain the equivalent circuit of inductive transformer. 12. Derive the expression for Quality Factor. 13. Expalin how harmonic filtering is achieved by a series resonant circuit. 14. Explain the method of impedance matching using reactive networks over a narrow frequency range. 15. Derive the expression for resistance and capacitance of a capacitive transformer and show that its turn ratio is (1+ C1/C2). 16. Explain in detail the used of transformers with tuned secondary and show that the input impedance is equal to n2 times the load resistance for a tightly coupled transformer at resonant frequency. 17. Explain in detail the transformer as a primary tuned circuit with the help of its equivalent model . Also derive the expression for its turn ratio.

Section -2
1. Design lossless coupling network that matches a load of (100+j25) to a 50 n source impedance at 20 MHz. 2. A Parallel tuned circuit is resonant at a frequency of 1 MHz and has a Q factor of 50. The tuning capacitor is 200pF. Calculate the Bandwidth, and find the values of the components used. 3. A circuit consisting of resistance of 4 and an inductor of 0.5 H and variable capacitor all in series connected across 100 V, 50 Hz supply at resonance, calculate : C, VL, Q, Io, at 100 Hz. 4. Design a lossless coupling network that matches a 10 + j5 load to a 50 source impedance. 5. Design a series RLC filter to couple a voltage source, with negliglible source impedance, to a 50 load resistance. The specifications of the filter are that the filter center frequency be 5 MJz and the bandwidth be 100 KHz. 6. What must be the minimum circuit Q for the amplitude of the fifth harmonic to be 40dB below the amplitude of the fundamental frequency? 7. Find the loaded Quality factor QL of a parallel tuned circuit with a inductor having a Qu of 100 and load resistor of 100K. 8. A tightly coupled transformer with a primary inductance of L1 of 25 H and a secondary inductance L2 of 400 H is used in the circuit shown in figure below. What is the overall frequency response of the circuit?
