22 August 2012 Edition Presidents Report from Natalie Jupe

Gday everyone, Last week we had a fantastic guest speaker Graham from TADACT who got us all thinking with some of the show and tell objects he bought along with him. Thanks again Graham for an interesting talk. It really is amazing how simple modifications can improve a persons way of life. This week we have Martin from Menslink coming to speak to us. Incorporated in 2002, Menslink is a dynamic, nonprofit community association that supports young men across the Canberra region by promoting their value, well-being and social participation. Over the past ten years, they have helped over a thousand young men to achieve their full potential. Primarily funded and supported by the ACT Government, their services are free to young men aged between ten and twenty-five who are in need of our support to develop into responsible, contributing adult men and members of society. With great assistance from Doug (who did all the hard work running around fo me) we have also nominated Doreen Tasmeen Shah as a candidate for the GSE trip to Mississippi. She works at the Queanbeyan Aged Care Facility, and we wish her all the best for her interview with the district GSE selection team. This Sunday will also see us having our very first Rotary Information Stall at the Cottage Markets, which are held in Riverside Plaza on the last Sunday of the month. I will be looking after the stall this time, however we will need to get a roster in place for the Sundays that I will not be available (to be discussed at the next board meeting). If you want to pop down for a little bit on the day you are more than welcome. Our new banner has been ordered but will probably not arrive in time for this month, but never mind. Also, I will be sure to get a photo of the stall for those of you who cannot make it on the day. It is not long now until Angie Ballard goes off to compete at the Paralympics, so I have included the dates/times of when she will be competing. Dont forget that the ABC will be televising events too. Cheers, Natalie

Joke of the Week To get his mind off his losing streak at the racetrack, I took my friend horseback riding. Being a novice, he freaked when his mount took off. "How do I stop?" he yelled. "Bet on it!" I hollered back.

Trivia Night Monday 27 August 6.30pm at Uni Pub Civic

To attend the trivia night, pay just $30. The bulk of this will go to FRANK Water as a direct donation; the other part ensures you also get to enjoy a beer/wine/soft drink and a burger + chips. Not to mention the intense competition that will be the trivia event, filled with prizes. To get your name/s on a list, speak to Sam Wagstaff (0415-938-658). Teams will consist of 6 or so people. Bring anyone. Bring everyone. But get your name on said list first. If you can't attend, but you're keen to support, great; head to our facebook page www.facebook.com/TheShawfrankIndirection, hit like, and then follow the links to our Just Giving page to make a donation. All offers will help. The ShawFRANK Indirection is an initiative by two Rio Tinto employees designed to raise awareness (and a bucket load of cash!) for FRANK Water, a small UK-based charity dedicated to providing access to much needed safe drinking water for the world's poorest communities. As a display of the passion we feel for this sensationally benevolent cause, Max, Jack and Mo will embark on the challenging adventure of travelling by rickshaw across the breadth of India in September 2012. If you would like to donate to this charity and hear about how badly a rickshaw can be driven, please follow the links at http://www.justgiving.com/ShawFRANK to donate - 100% of the money raised goes to charity. Thanks very much for all your support! Max, Jack and Sam
