Greek Play Script

(Sam Bealing, Jack Baker, Jack Bennett and Callum Robinson)


For the sake of this script the following abbreviations will be used: C.R Callum Robinson J. Ba. Jack Baker J. Be. Jack Bennett S. B. Sam Bealing Also curved brackets and red font () will be used to indicate movement and square brackets and blue font [] will be used to indicate expressions, pauses etc. Suffixes such as us could be used to make speech generally sound more Greek themed.

Scene 1
(J. Be. is completing an acting routine in Greek on an imaginary stage. C. R... is waiting at the side, ready to have an interview with him.) (J. Be. exits stage and C.R. gets excited and grabs him.) C.R [Excited] Hello, this is HHTV news. J. Be. [Surprised] Oh, hi! C.R. Whats your name and what character do you play in the play? J. Be. [Catching his breath] Oh, my names Jackus Bennetus and I play Dionysus. C.R. And what is Dionysus the god of? J. Be. [Comfortable] Hes the god of the arts, wine and fertility. C.R What masks do you and your fellow actors wear? J. Be. [Annoyed] Shocked, happy, sad and angry like my wifes going to be if I dont get home for the kebabs shes cooking! C.R [Defending himself] Ok, ok, Ill make it quick. Where have you been performing today? J. Be. Im performing at the Theatre of Dionysus here in Athens. [Angry] Can I go now? C.R. Ok, thank you and back to the studio. (C. R. and J. Be. go off arguing and then focus turns to the studio where S.B. is seated behind a table)

Scene 2
S.B. Thank you Callumus and now its time for the weather with Jackus Bakerus. (J. Ba. prepares with the weather and then weather slide appears on computer screen) J. Ba. [Formally] Hello and welcome to the weather. Im Jackus Bakerus. [Pause] Today in Athens, where some of the first Greek plays were performed, itll be sunny with a mild breeze. Also in the island of Crete weather will be sunny and mild. [Beginning to get informal] Here in Central Greece the skies will be so clear youll be able to see Ur-anus in the sky! (J. Ba. starts laughing. S. B. interjects and focus turns to the studio)

Scene 3
(Quiz question 1 appears on the screen) S.B [Annoyed] Ok thank you Jackus Bakerus. [Pause] We now move to our first quiz question. Which of the following was Dionysus not the god of: Arts, People or Wine? (S. B. sees if there are any answers)

S.B. The answer is (Screen changes to answer) S.B. People! S.B. Well now move to the strongly awaited quiz show Mastermind. (Screen changes to Mastermind title, J.Ba. is waiting behind desk and focus turns to him) J. Ba. [Calmed down] Hello and welcome to Mastermind, Im Jackus Bakerus. Heres our first contestant. (C. R. enters) J. Ba. [Soft tone] Hello and good afternoon, would you please give us your name. C.R. Caloomus Robeenus. J. Ba. [Tone begins to rise] Age! C.R. Elevenus. J. Ba. Right, now its time for the first question. (Question 1 appears on screen) J. Ba. [Aggressive tone in voice] How long ago was the first Greek play performed? C.R. [Pauses] Err (C.R. counts on his fingers) C. R. 2562 years ago. (Answer to question 1 appears on screen) J. Ba. [Annoyed] Oh damn, you got it right, now I cant give you the mystery punishment! (Question 2 appears on screen) J. Ba. Where were Greek plays performed. [Angry] And dont say in Greece! C.R. I know this one, in an Amphitheatre! (Answer to question 2 appears on screen) J. Ba. [Really irritated] Why wont you get one wrong! (Question 3 appears on screen) J. Ba. [Happy] Right, now weve have a really hard one maybe Ill get to give you the mystery punishment after all. [Pause] Who was the Greek God of fire, metalworking and volcanism? C. R. [Worried] I dont know, Err [Pause] The fire, metalworking and volcanism God. (Answer to question 3 appears on screen) J. Ba. [Excited] Yay! Wrong! [Aggressive] Give him the mystery punishment! (C. R. pretends to be electrocuted and then stumbles of stage) J. Ba. [Embarrassed] Actually I need to go as well! (J. Ba. waddles off with legs crossed. J. Be. takes the place of C.R. and S.B. takes the place of J. Ba.) S. B. [Apologetic] Ok lets carry on with the quiz with our new contestant [Inquisitive] J. Be. Jackus Beneetus S. B. Ok, now for the first question. (Question 4 appears on screen) S. B. What were the two ways in which Greek Actors used their voice to perform a play? J. Be. [Confident] I know this one! They either spoke or sung in rhyme. S. B. Ok, lets see the answer. (Answer to question 4 appears on screen) S. B. Correct! J. Be. [Happy] Yes! S. B. [Seriously] Now its time for the next question.

(Question 5 appears on screen) S. B. Who wrote The Six Elements of Drama? J. Be. [Thinking] Its that Greek bloke. S. B. [Sarcastically] Yes J. Be. Urr I know, its Aristotle! (Answer to question 5 appears on screen) S. B. Yes it was Aristotle. [Pause] Now its time for the 3rd and final question. (Question 6 appears on screen) S. B. Which Greek Playwright wrote the play Oedipus? J. Be. [Worried] I dont know. Err [Pause] Aristotle? S. B. Lets see if Aristotle is correct. (Answer to question 6 appears on screen) S. B. You were wrong. [Mean] Lets give him the mystery punishment! (J. Be. is electrocuted and again stumbles off the stage) S.B. And thats all we have time for today on Mastermind. See you next time here on Mastermind. (Everybody exits and theme tune begins to play. Then quiz question 2 appears on screen) C.R. We now move to our second quiz question. Where were Greek Plays performed, in: an Amphitheatre, Coliseum or The Great Theatre? (C. R. sees if there are any answers) C.R. The answer is (Screen changes to answer) C.R. Amphitheatre!

Scene 4 Acting Scene thats being done in school


(Acting scene finishes and quiz question 3 appears on screen) J. Be. We now move to our third and final quiz question. Which of the following is not a type of Greek Play: Tragedy, Comedy or Musical? (J. Be. sees if there are any answers) J. Be. The answer is (Screen changes to answer) J. Be. Musical!

(Everybody comes together on stage and takes a bow. Credits appear on screen)
