(Old Testament) Pentateuch -RUTHThe book of Ruth is named after the Moabite woman who was joined to the

Israelite people by her marriage with the influential Boaz of Bethlehem. CHAPTER 1 Naomi of Moab A man from Bethlehem of Judah departed with his wife and two sons to reside on the plateau of Moab because of famine. The man was named Elimelech, his wife Naomi and two sons Mahlon and Chilion. After their arrival on the plateau Elimelech died and his wife Naomi was left with her two sons. Her two sons married Moabite women whose names are Orpah and Ruth. But after 10 years, Naomis sons died. And their wives and mother was left alone together. So they left their home. But Naomi told her daughters in law to go back to their own home. Orpah agreed to Naomi and she went back to where she came from. But Ruth refused to go and to abandon her mother in law and she went with Naomi to the land of Judah. The Return to Bethlehem Naomi and Ruth went back to Bethlehem. And upon their arrival the whole city was a stir over them. And one woman asked Can this be Naomi? But Naomi told them to stop calling her Naomi again because God was bitter to her because she went out of Bethlehem with abundance but now she had returned with nothing. They arrived at Bethlehem at the beginning of the barley harvest.

CHAPTER 2 The Meeting Boaz is a prominent kinsman of Naomi from his husbands clan. Ruth the Moabite woman asked Naomi if she could go to someones field to look for work in order for them to have some food. And Ruth went to the field of Boaz, and there the two met. Ruth wanted to work in the fields of Boaz but he refused to let Ruth work instead he wanted Ruth to work with his woman servants. And Ruth asked Boaz if why a foreigner should be favored with his notice. Boaz answered her that he is doing it because Ruth has never abandoned her Mother in law, even though she had to leave her parents and her homeland. Then Ruth started to glean, but Boaz had already

instructed his servants not to scold Ruth. After she gleaned, Ruth went back to Naomi and told her everything about her meeting with Boaz.

CHAPTER 3 Ruth Again Presents Herself Naomi instructed Ruth on what to do. She told Ruth to take a bath and put on her best attire. And present herself to Boaz after have finished eating and drinking she must lay to the feet of Boaz until he recognize her. Then Boaz turned down and saw a woman lying on the space of his feet and asked if who is that woman, then Ruth presented herself to Boaz, and they talk. In the morning, Boaz gave Ruth six measures of barley because he never wanted Ruth to return to her mother in law empty handed.

CHAPTER 4 Boaz Marries Ruth Boaz went and took a seat at the gate and he saw a closer relative. And he called for ten elders of the city to sit with him. And he discussed about the land that his Kin Elimelech had left. Boaz told him that if he wanted to own the land he must marry Ruth to. But the relative refused to take ownership of the land and told Boaz to acquire it. And he agreed to acquire the land and marry the Moabite woman Ruth. Then Boaz took Ruth and they become Man and Wife and Ruth bore a son and they named him as Obed, Obed is the father of Jesse, father of David .
