Note: This episode is the last episode in which Sawyer

will be part of the main cast. For now. Every appearance

after this episode, he will be credited as a guest star.

1x08 – Family Bonds

(Michael Dawson Centric)

Previously on LOST:

1) Walt going missing.

2) Walt in the darkened room pounding on the door.
3) Michael, Claire and Luke getting off the helicopter.
4) Sawyer and Tom sitting at the table.
5) Jack telling Kate that he’s going to find out who the man
and woman are.
6) The man and woman walking through the jungle.
7) Jack and Kate running after them.
8) Rose being introduced to Mr. Eko and Ana Lucia by
Bernard, her husband.

Exterior. Beach. Night.

We see a group of people gathered around a camp fire. There

are quite a few of them there; roughly half of the survivors. We
recognise several of them; Sayid, Charlie, Sun, Jin and Rose.
But the rest of them are people we haven’t been introduced to
yet. They are eating and drinking together, forgetting all of the
troubles. The camera focuses on Charlie as he talks to a blonde
haired girl.

Charlie:
Nikki, you look familiar. You been on TV or something?

Nikki:
Yeah, I was in that show ‘Exposé’ actually.

Charlie:
Really, whoa! We have a celebrity here people.

The group laughs.

Rose:
 Well, two celebrities. Charlie’s a rock star.

Charlie:
Now, now girls. Rose, have you even been on TV or something?
You seem familiar. I think I remember seeing your photo on the
news for some reason...

Rose:
Erm, no. Never been on TV in my life.

The camera focuses on Rose’s face as she looks incredibly

uncomfortable. She decides to change the subject.

Rose:
So what does everyone else do back home?

We see a man sat beside Nikki with his arm around her.

Nikki:
Paulo’s a chef, aren’t you honey?

Nikki kisses Paulo before he says:

Paulo:
Sure am. Although it’s not that exciting.

Man #1:
And I’m a high school teacher.

Rose:
What subject do you teach, Leslie?

Leslie:
I prefer to go by my surname, ‘Artz’. I don’t like Leslie. But I
teach Science.

Rose:
What about you, sugar?

Rose directs this at a man who is sat to the left of Leslie Artz.

Man #2:
 I make and sell frozen yogurt.

Charlie:
Oooh I love frozen yogurt. What flavours do you make, Neil?

Neil:
All kinds of flavours.

Rose:
Alright-y then. What about you Sayid? What do you do?

Sayid:
I was part of the Iraqi Republican Guard. A torturer.

A silence falls over the camp as the camera fades to black.

-LOST-
Commercial Break

Flashback. Apartment. LA. Day.

We see Michael sat down on a sofa beside a black haired

woman. The two of them are drinking wine, talking and
laughing. The atmosphere is very relaxed.

Michael:
Susan, I can’t believe how fast this past year with you has
gone!

Susan:
I know, neither can I. It’s been amazing Michael.

They both smile and chink their glasses together.

Michael:
It sure has, Susan.

Susan:
Did you hear anything about that job by the way? The one at
the construction site?

Michael:
 No, not yet. They said it could take to the end of the week to
get back to me though.

Susan:
Oh, well I hope you get it. We’re going to need all of the money
we can get if we’re going to start for a baby.

The camera focuses on Susan’s face looking worried as the

flashback sound is heard...

Exterior. Beach. Night.

The camera focuses on the helicopter which is covered in

shadow from the trees before panning around to show Claire,
Michael and Luke stood before Sawyer and Howard.

Luke:
Look, what’s going on guys?

Sawyer:
(To Howard) What time did they say they were coming?

Howard:
About half nine.

Howard checks his wristwatch and then looks into the jungle.

Howard:
They should be here any moment.

We here rustling coming from the forest and the camera turns
too show several people walking out of it. They are all hidden in
the shadows however so we don’t see any of their faces. The
camera pans back round to Michael as something dawns on
him.

Michael:
Wait... you didn’t have anything to do with Walt going missing
did you?

Howard:
(Sarcastically) Well done, Michael.
 Sawyer laughs, watching the people that exited the jungle as
they make their way towards them.

Michael:
You son of a bitch!

Michael launches himself at Sawyer who falls to the floor.

Michael repeatedly hits Sawyer in the face until Howard pulls
him off and throws him to the floor. Sawyer stands up as the
people form the jungle arrive. We recognise one of them as
Tom, the person who Sawyer was talking too from his
flashback.

Tom:
Is that all of them?

Sawyer:
Sure is, boss.

Tom:
Excellent work, James. And did you get the list?

Sawyer:
Yeah, here it is.

Sawyer hands Tom a piece of paper who quickly glances at it

before putting it into his pocket.

Tom:
Excellent. He will be happy.

Tom glances at Claire, Michael and Luke and says rather lazily:

Tom:
Bag ‘em.

Three of the other people who came from the jungle walk up to
Claire, Michael and Luke and thrust dark bags over their heads
as Tom continues:

Tom:
 C’mon, let’s go.

Tom begins to walk off into the jungle as the camera cuts to:

Exterior. Jungle. Night.

We see Jack and Kate walking fast but quietly through the
jungle.

Kate:
What are we going to do when we catch up to them, Jack?

Jack:
I haven’t thought of that yet. But I will.

Kate doesn’t look very convinced as she follows Jack into the
darkness. The camera cuts to:

Exterior. Jungle. Night.

We see Claire, Michael and Luke being led through the jungle
with bags over their heads. Sawyer, Howard and Tom are in the
lead and the rest of the random people that came out of the
jungle are at the back. The camera zooms into Michael as the
flashback sound is heard...

Flashback. Michael’s Apartment. LA. Day.

Michael is sat on the sofa again, this time with a small child.
The child is about 2 years old. The door opens and Susan walks
in, dressed in a smart suit. She smiles briefly when she see’s
Michael and Walt before talking her jacket off and walking
towards them.

Susan:
You’re a natural.

Michael:
Thanks.

Michael smiles at Susan as he continues to play with little Walt.

 Michael:
How was your interview?

Susan:
I didn’t get it. Brain, the interview, said I wasn’t what they were
looking for.

Michael stands up and walks over to Susan. He hugs her.

Michael:
Don’t worry, babe. It will happen.

Susan:
Really?

Michael:
Yeah, just you wait. It’s not like were desperate for money
anyway. With my construction work, and my paintings... we’ve
enough money for the moment.

Susan:
Yeah...

Susan smiles at Michael, looking reassured slightly as she

begins to play with Walt. The flashback sound is heard...

Exterior. Beach. Day.

The camera is focused on the jungle as we see Hurley, Libby

and Nadia walk out of the jungle. Their backpacks are now
bulging full of food and water. They put their bags down near a
pile of stuff that was salvaged from the plane’s crash. Sayid
rushes straight over to them and hugs Nadia.

Sayid:
What took you so long? You’ve been gone for ages!

Nadia:
You know the ‘monster’ thing in the jungle? Well... we were
chased by it!

Sayid:
 What?! Are you ok?

Hurley:
We’re all ok, dude.

Hurley looks around the camp.

Hurley:
They back yet? Jack, Kate... Claire, Michael? Any of them?

Sayid:
No... not yet.

The four of them turn to look at the jungle with worried faces
as the camera fades to black.

Commercial Break.

Flashback. Cemetery. LA. Day.

Close-up on a casket being lowered into the ground as it pans

out to reveal a large photo of the occupant of the coffin. It is
Susan Dawson, Michael’s wife and Walt’s mother! We can here
someone speaking (a priest) faintly. The camera pans over to
show a fully grown Walt (roughly 10), stood staring into the
grave. Pan further along, we see Michael stood beside Walt. His
eyes are wet and his arm is around Walt. The priest finishes
talking and the rest of the people at the grave move off,
leaving Walt and Michael stood there.

Michael:
Walt... I’m so sorry.

Walt:
Yeah.

Michael:
Is there anything I can do for you?

Walt shrugs, obviously not wanting to talk much.

Michael:
 A holiday. How about a holiday? Australia, you’ve always
wanted to go there, yeah?

Again, Walt doesn’t talk. The camera focuses on his face as he

is close to tears. The flashback sound is heard...

Exterior. Jungle. Day.

Again, we see Claire, Michael and Luke being led through the
jungle. Sawyer, Tom and Howard are still in the lead, talking
quietly. Suddenly the three of them stop walking, causing
Claire, Michael and Luke to stop walking.

Tom:
We’re takin’ a rest. Five minutes people.

The random people at the back move forward and removes the
hoods from Claire, Michael and Luke and one of them hands
Claire a water bottle.

Tom:
Drink. Quick. We’re going to be going in a minute.

Luke:
Where are you taking us?!

Tom:
You’ll find out soon. Right, bag ‘em. We’re going.

The hoods are put over their head’s again as the camera cuts
to:

Exterior. Jungle. Night.

We can see Jack and Kate stopped behind a tree watching

something. The camera pans round slowly to show the woman.
She is bent over, looking for something on the ground. See
reaches forward and pulls something. A trap door opens under
ground. We hear rustling and Jack and Kate turn round. The
camera follows them and we see the man stood there, swathed
in darkness. He takes his rifle out and smacks Jack and Kate in
the head. They fall to the floor as the camera fades to black.
 Commercial break.

Exterior. Jungle. Dawn.

Tom, Sawyer and Howard eventually slow down and stop. The
random people lead Claire, Michael and Sawyer forward slightly
and take their hoods off. They blink several times as their eyes
become accustomed to the light.

Tom:
We’re here...

The camera pans round slowly but before we see where exactly
‘here’ is the flashback sound is heard...

Flashback. Sydney Airport. Morning.

We see Michael and Walt sat down in the waiting area. Walt is
playing on a hand held game console and Michael is looking at
a newspaper. They both have their heads bent low as Locke
wheels past them in his wheelchair. They don’t see each other.
Michael turns to Walt.

Michael:
How are you now Walt? Feeling better since we came here?

Walt:
(Looking up from his game) Yeah, a little. Thanks Dad.

They both smile at each other.

Michael:
We won’t ever forget her, Walt. So I don’t want you thinking
that we will.

Walt:
I know.

Michael:
I love you, son.
 Walt:
I love you too, Dad.

Walt goes back to playing on his game and Michael goes back
to reading his newspaper. The flashback sound is heard...

Interior. Underground Bunker. Dawn.

The camera shows Jack and Kate tied up on a metal bed

without a mattress. They’re both unconscious. After a moment,
Jack stirs. He wakes up, soon followed by Kate. They both look
around the room. We hear movement coming from their left
and they both turn to look. The camera follows their gaze and
we see the woman stood in the shadows. She walks slowly out
of them. She says to them in a European accent:

Woman:
Where is Alex?

Jack:
Alex? Who’s Alex?

The woman moves over to something that is hidden behind a

pile of boxes. She fiddles with something and the camera pans
back to Jack and Kate. They’re being electrocuted! The camera
stays on their faces for a moment, both in pain as the camera
fades to black.

LOST

VO: They’re here for the long haul. But they’re not alone.

1) Quick clip of the woman shocking Jack and Kate.

2) Tom, Sawyer and Howard walking through the jungle.
3) Ana, Eko, Bernard and Cindy grouped around a fire.
