am
fascinated
with
creative
expression
through
portraiture.
Portraits
are
a
celebration
and
acknowledgement
of
an
individual.
I
want
the
world
to
see
these
people
my
way,
larger
than
life;
otherwise
they
may
as
well
just
view
their
reflections
in
a
mirror.

Catrine Nsmark
Artist/Painter Stockholm, Sweden
One
day
when
Catrine
was
10
years
old,
her
mother
came
home
with
a
totem
pole
for
which
she
had
spent
quite
a
bit
of
money.
Catrine
could
not
understand
how
someone
could
pay
so
much
for
a
wooden
plank
with
some
paint
on
it.
Catrines
mother
taught
her
daughter
to
appreciate
the
beauty
and
value
of
art,
and
soon
this
grew
to
be
young
Catrines
passion,
signifying
her
call
in
life
and
future
livelihood.
From
the
time
Catrine
began
studying
art
in
1992,
her
life
was
filled
with
painting.
After
studies
in
Sweden,
she
went
to
Denmark
and
the
Royal
Danish
Academy
of
Fine
Arts,
where
she
obtained
a
degree
in
set
design.
Although
scenography
devoured
her
days,
Catrine
could
not
keep
herself
from
painting.
She
painted
nights
with
a
glass
of
wine
in
hand,
still
dressed
in
the
high
heels
of
her
business
day;
she
painted
on
weekends
and
during
holidays,
whenever
she
could
steal
a
moment.
She
could
not
stop
her
drive
to
create;
her
artists
vision
demanded
expression.
Catrine
soon
left
scene
design
to
devote
herself
to
painting
full-time.
Portraiture
is
her
specialty,
and
Catrine
paints
people
in
all
forms:
dressed,
undressed,
moving
and
sitting
still.
She
portrays
little
boys
as
well
as
professional
board
members.
Sports
and
action
fascinate
her.
Playing
with
words
amuses
her.
Catrine
makes
her
paintings
large,
and
she
prefers
working
alone
in
her
studio.
Catrines
first
exhibition
was
at
Galleri
Odin
in
Stockholm:
Kings,
Queens
and
other
Commoners."
At
her
exhibition
Long
Live
the
King
at
Ulfsunda
Castle
in
Sweden,
Catrines
set
designer
training
emerged
in
her
paintings,
as
they
were
sprinkled
with
flea
market
finds,
toys
and
other
everyday
objects.
When
Catrines
father
passed
away
she
was
moved
to
create
the
painting
series
Oh
My
God
at
Catherines
Church,
Sweden,
as
a
way
to
express
her
loss.
Catrines
latest
exhibition,
United
Statements
of
America,
displays
American
heroes
and
memorable
quotes
from
each
celebrated
person.
Examples
of
others
who
have
had
their
portraits
painted
by
Catrine
include
King
Carl
Gustav
and
Queen
Silvia
of
Sweden;
the
artwork
can
be
seen
at
the
Royal
Palace.
Catrine
resides
in
Stockholm,
Sweden
with
her
beloved
husband
and
two
sons.
She
likes
to
take
her
Harley
Davidson
out
for
a
ride
as
often
as
she
can.
