Career Exploration Project

Your assignment is to write a reflection on what you learn from the following activities. It should be in the MLA format. You will be graded on the effort you put into the research so make sure to document what you do and learn. Also, make sure to check for spelling and your format issues. Each of these sections below should be a paragraph in your reflection essay I. Industry Sectors Career Center Presentation In class, we viewed a power point presentation created by the Director of the Career Center and the Regional Occupation Program (ROP) which discussed the 15 Industry Sectors. We also looked thru the Industry Sector .PDF that discussed some careers for each sector Entry Level (HS), Technical Level (some college), and Professional Level (Bachelors or higher) careers. Feel free to print any of the pages in this document to put in your notes. Write about your Top 3 Industry Sectors explain each one and include some careers that interest you. We will have a chance to visit the Career Center (Room 501) and see what resources are available for you (job board, ROP classes, college visitations, job shadowing...) II. Bridges Career Cluster Finder Take the Bridges Explorer Career Cluster Finder and research the Careers in your cluster(s), the recommended programs, and the recommended high school courses. Feel free to explore other clusters that you think might fit you better. Summarize what you learned from this activity including your Top Career Clusters and about some careers that came up that might be a good fit for you. Are there programs or high school classes that interest you? III. California Career Zone Explore the California Career Zone Website (you should be able to use the Flash link). Explore the Industry Sectors that might be interesting to you and the careers that come up. What careers did you find interesting? Feel free to print anything that you want to keep for future reference. Write about what you learned. You can also explore the Assess Yourself and/or the Get a Reality Check sections. If you do, write about what you learned. IV. Other Career Websites In the CCP locker in Bridges, there are many websites to explore in the Career Folder, including: Bureau of Labor Statistics California Employment Development Department Career Info Net Career Overview Job Hunters Bible (What Color is My Parachute - a great book to read too) Monster Jobs Search OC Careers Skills.net US Department of Labor Occupational Network (ONET) Explore these websites and write about which sites you found interesting and anything that you learned. V. Top 10 Careers

After all our research above and in bridges this semester, narrow down the careers to the top 10 careers for you list them in your reflection ranked from 1 to 10 using the word numbering feature. Tab over give a short description of what the career is (keep it to a short phrase).
