Health students miss class for health seminar

By: Sarah Appleby
Have you ever thought about what happens to your body and life if you do drugs? On October 17th Dr. Bill Beachum came and spoke to all health classes about the effects of drugs. In an easy to follow fashion, Beachum discussed how smoking marijuana creates a film around the receptors in your brain, clogging your higher level thinking. An interesting fact that I did not know was the half-life of marijuana is 5-7 days but it takes months for it to completely clear from your system. CONTINUE READING ON PAGE ##

The Homecoming dance took place October 13 inside of the big gym. In correlation to the themes of the homecoming game floats, the dance was themed Under the Sea. The gym was decked with sea shells, paper fish, bubbles and two projections of the movie Nemo. In addition, black clothes and blue lights decorated the entrance, which according to senior Taylor Scherer, made her at first feel as though she had entered a haunted house and something surprising was behind the curtains. As tradition, the Homecoming king and queen were crowned during the dance. Literally breaking up the

President Obama was eager to make up for his lacking performance with Governor Romney Tuesday night at the Hofstra University debate in Hempstead, N.Y. Instead of the lifeless politician, as in the first debate, he acted as the president he is and took control. The President strove not to repeat his horrible night of the first debate, which even he called as an off-night. Tuesday night, though, the president was in command. He reinvigorated his own campaign by delivering the best debate performance of his political career. Governor Romney was good, dont get me wrong, but he just couldnt compete with the President, and most of the time, looked quite rattled. CONTINUE READING ON PAGE 04

Pledge To Be An ALLY. Students quickly huddled around the table with interest, and chose whether to sign the pledge. I was able to ask GSA Vice-President Sofia Johnston why she thought it was important for GSA to have celebrated Ally Week? As a GSA we need to show the school that we are making a change towards equality for everyone and that its okay to support gay rights;

SAT dates coming up soon, are you ready ?

By: Sarah El-Mahmoud
On October 20, many Juniors gave up their valuable Saturday morning and came to school at 7:45 a.m. to take the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT). Now that they have taken the first step, its time to get ready for the SAT. The SAT, if you dont know, is a standardized test used for college admissions in the United States. It is intended to show how ready students are ready for college. The test takes three hours and 45 minutes to complete and costs $50. If you are college bound, taking the SAT or ACT is required for all college freshman. You might wonder what kind of score you should be aiming for when taking the SAT. The highest possible score you can get on the test is a 2400. However, getting anything above a 1100 is an acceptable score. The national average of SAT scores is a 1500. Each college has a different score range that they will take depending on its standards. There are various ways to get ready for the SAT besides the PSAT. I would suggest going on to sat.collegeboard.org for practice questions. Also, iPhone users should look for the SAT Question of the Day app which is a good way to practice for the SAT every single day. If you just cant wait to the SAT and get it over with, there is an upcoming test date on November 3. Since its so close, the fee is $77, and the deadline to register is as late as October 22. Other test dates coming up are on December 1 and January 26. The SAT is important for your future and I hope you decide to take it. If you are a Junior you have an early start, you can start preparing today so you can get the best score possible, and so you have more choices when applying for colleges. If you are a senior, there is still time, dont forget to register soon!

Logan Lerman portrays the awkward and shy freshman, Charlie, and Ezra Miller captures the hearts of the audience with his stunning performance as Sams gay step brother, Patrick. The most astonishing performance was Emma Watson as Sam, Charlies love interest and Patricks step sister. Sam is no Hermione Granger, but Watson, donning a flawless American accent, nails the role; proving that franchises do not ruin actors.

Obama and His Win in Town Hall
By: Sarah Snyder
Continued from front page | Of course, I have no doubt that President Obama won this round by a landslide. The two candidates scraped over many different topics from education to tax cuts to energy costs. One of the most interesting topics though, was exchange over the terrorist attacks in Libya. Governor Romney challenged the President's assertion when he stated that it was an act of terror the day after the incident occurred. Obama was effective in answering Mr. Romneys criticism, and stated, was offensive. We dont do that. Romney was effectively proven wrong by moderator Candy Crowley when she agreed with Obama and supported him by stating that his claim was correct. The truth is, Romney was out of his at all league in this debate. The fact that he secured his own knock out in the end from the President by mentioning the 47% issue shows that he just wasnt in the right state of mind. If you are still somehow an undecided voter looking for the next chance to determine who you want to vote for, and I strongly suggest Obama, then you should tune in on the third and last Presidential debate that is going to be held on Monday, October 22 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida, focusing on foreign policy.
