promoters and hand-picked guests alike. Giraffe-like Skeate, whos dating former Idol Pixie Bennet (a rather unfortunate name, given her height), sported his usual unkempt beard. Ever heard of a razor, Ross? But his fashionable, albeit farmhand-look of plaid shirt, jeans and strategically-placed trendy Wayfarer sunglasses countered his misshapen Movember manliness. But perhaps a visit to the barber wouldnt go astray Of course the WAGs (thats wives and girlfriends for the social heathens among you) were also strutting their storebought stuff. And while they were stylish enough for this event, it wouldnt hurt them to take a few notes from the ramp. And speaking of the ramp, if the collection of Guess garments is any sign of what the season is going to look like, then were in for one hot summer. Stuart Marsh and Tamsyn Ganos, the respective brand and marketing managers of Guess, say that we can expect a fashionable fusion of denim and animal prints this season, as well as bright colours, and a new underwear range from the brand. Also spotted at the event was GQs creative fashion director Arthur MalanMurison, dressed down in a simple white shirt and grey jeans. On him it was easy to see why less is almost always more. That said, there are some events that cant avoid being larger than life, as was the case with the VIP opening night of the Playhouses holiday show, Cinderella. We hotfooted it to the VIP room with celebs like veteran SA actress Anne Power, who was once married to madcap actor Bill Flynn, and whose son Ryan plays the lead in the play and former SA high , commissioner to London, Dr Lindiwe Mabuza. Mabuza, always stylish, was resplendent in an African print number complete with large hat pity the poor sap who was seated behind her during the show! Of course, the Playhouses chief executive and artistic director, Linda Bukhosini, and her husband, the KZN Philharmonic Orchestras Bongani Tembe, fluttered about proudly showing off their daughter Nondumiso, who also happens to be the star of the show. Some would ask if this is not brazen nepotism? Is Durban not home to a slew of capable actors that could headline shows at the Playhouse? Even so, we loved her on stage and trust that director Ralph Lawson chose her because of her talents. The show itself was nice enough, but heres a burning thought why do people not dress up for an opening night at the theatre anymore? Apart from Anne Power, decked out to the nines in a navy and light blue evening dress, with her signature blonder than ever locks, no one really stood out. Well, there was Linda Bukhosini, wearing an olive green jumpsuit, but she stood out for reasons other than good fashion sense. Its rumoured that Princess Charlene of Monaco is going to be in Durban on Tuesday , but the big question is for how long, and will she be strutting about in Terrence Bray designs? Well keep on it and bring you all the details in the near future. Although unfortunately dogged by a scandal of royal proportions, it seems the couple is still together and there have even been whispers of a possible baby bump will we be hearing the pitter-patter of tiny royal feet soon? COP17 started on Monday with a bang, even if the president was 40 minutes late for his opening address. Tuesday saw the Department of Arts and Cultures Mzansi Golden Economy soiree, which turned out to be a real bore. The entertainment was less than entertaining, Minister of Arts and Culture Paul Mashatiles speech was too long, and the only prominent people spotted were poet Lebo Mashile, who was also the MC, Jimmy Manyi and Metro FM talk show host Cassandra Khananda. We still dont know what Mzansis Golden Economy event was about! Want to appear on this page? Send details to buhle.mbonambi@inl.co.za
